Well I mean, do you have an input jack that you can hook up to your stereo from your phone's headphone port? Because if so you could use services like Pandora, Last.fm, etc for the music as well as getting the app if you really wanted to. Does the app require a subscription fee?

I've had it for 5 or 6 years now. I have one in each of my cars and a boombox in my office at work. I could never go back and listen to terrestrial radio.
You have to have an online subscription to be able to use an app on a smart phone. If you have a subscription to a radio, then I think the online is like an extra $3/month or something. If you don't have a radio subscription, then an online account is something like $8/month.
The online sub used to be included free with a subscription to XM, buy when they merged with Sirius, they took that away. I don't pay for the online since I already have 3 radios.

I have XM. Love it. Have a Pioneer Inno docked for both home and car. I actually thought about dropping it because of all the radio I have access to on my IPhone however if you are driving and you hit an area with shitty cell coverage you'll lose connection to your radio app. My XM never drops or loses signal so I kept it and love it.

I love it! Our rental car had it when we drove to Virginia Beach this year and gone was searching for a signal, playing CDs over and over, etc. Even through all the mountains, we never lost signal and you can always find something to listen to. Well worth the expense!

I bought Sirius lifetime in 2006. I've had it long enough now to where if you spread the one time fee I paid out monthly that it is paid for and I'm just getting it for free now, which is awesome. It was free to listen online when I signed up as well, so I'm grandfathered in to that (The only thing I can't use is the app on my iPod Touch).
Also, the "lifetime" is for the life of 3 radios (at least it was in 2006) and I'm still on my first one, so it's a great deal.

I have it too and I love it. Very, VERY rarely do I switch over to terrestrial radio...which is sad because I worked in terrestrial radio for over 5 years and am going back this fall to do some football.
Worth the investment.

I miss it everyday. It's hard going back to regular radio once you've had XM for a while.

depends on what you listen to though. I listen to mainly country and feel like we have a better selection on terrestrial radio in Columbus than what xm/sirius offers

There is no such thing as lifetime anymore.
I pay around $145 a year for serius sports and music. Basic stuff.
It was in a 2006 Chrysler I bought. Had the car for a little over two years when one day the radio did an update and I lost my service. The dealer told me I had a lifetime service however it wasn't a lifetime subscription and they can't really explain how I got it free for so long. I tried to go without and couldn't handle it. I had to get the subscription back. It's too much money but what are you going to do. It is worth it in my opinion.

They got rid of it again? Last I knew was they had lifetime subs a couple months ago still... $399 for Sirius Everything, $499 to include Best of XM.
EDIT: I just checked because my brother has an auxiliary account off of mine that he pays quarterly, you can still buy (or at least upgrade an existing one) to a lifetime, but it's $499 and $599, respectively.

I wish I would have done the lifetime. My parents bought it for me when I was in high school and they renewed it every year as a Christmas present. Now that I'm a little older they told me I had to pay for it, and at the time I didn't have a steady job so I had to get rid of it.
I had XM but if I ever get it again I will probably do it through Sirius. It is worth the money. It spoils you though. I can hardly sit through commercials now.

yeah, that was my thought when I read the thread title.
the variety of music channels at the touch of a button. most are commercial free. the MLB...every game... out of market. Really like Classic Vinyl and the early alternative music channel.
never listen to conventional AM or FM radio anymore unless I am checking on a severe thunderstorm warning.

I loved it - but the expense got to be too much (plus the hardware kicked out about every 18 months). I now use internet radio - of course, I get use the unlimited aircard time on the company computer when I travel.
