Whenever a critic of the UC football program speaks to how the team will do, the first thing they will note is the man who has taken them to new heights has moved on to South Bend. Many ponder whether the Bearcats will fall back into mediocrity now that Kelly has left for greener pastures. From what I've seen so far from Butch Jones, I think the Cats will be just fine. *Note, the author of the piece is Paul Daugherty. Paul is a sports writer for the Cincinnati Enquirer and has a reputation as a "jaded sour-puss" for the most part. With that in mind I am even more impressed by Jones when I see his tone in the article.

CinciX12 I agree; P-Doc is a d-bag.

Here's hoping Cincy does well. They play an exciting brand of football and I hope they have more weekday exposure as their games get lost in the mix with the whole Saturday lineup. I hope Coach Jones really believes that Cincy can be a destination coaching job and not a stepping stone. I like the assimilation of Miami's rise coming from having players from the city stay at home to win something. If that were to happen it may hurt my beloved Buckeyes but I think they both can co-exist.

I think there is enough talent in the state of Ohio and the surrounding areas for both teams to co-exist at a high BCS level. Florida does it with four schools (and many smaller schools) Texas has four (and many smaller), Michigan has two, Indiana has 3, and so on and so forth.

I agree with you and thought of those other states who do it, some with lesser high school talent than Ohio. I think what bodes well is that there is not a significant pipeline in Cincinnati that sends kids to tOSU every year. If anything I would say ND is a bigger recruiting threat to the area but I am not from there so I don't know the local feelings about ND since Brian Kelly took over.

ND does have a pipline to Cincinnati. Ditto for Boston College (Jesuit School), SEC schools and second tier B10 schools likes Michigan State and Illinois. In the past couple years Cincinati has done a better job landing some of the good talent in the city along with some fine players from Columbus, Cleveland and out of the states of Indiana, Michigan and Florida.

Yeah Notre Dame already had a pretty good recruiting base in the tri-state area. Kelly leaving to go there won't help UC's cause at the moment, but it will even back out again in time.

I don't expect to see much of a drop off this season at Cincy. Zach Collaros should thrive in Jones' offense

Agreed. UC will have a very potent offense. The big question is how the defense will look.

Collaros and Dan LeFevour (sp?) are very similar QBs, right?

The only difference between the two is that LeFevour is much bigger than Zach (DL- 6'4 225 ZC 6'0-210). Jones used LeFevour much like Tim Tebow was used at Florida by lowering his shoulder for a first down. The thing about LeFevour is that he was also very fast so he could run around people as well. I would rate their passing about the same.

People at training camp in 2009 said Vidal Hazelton was the best receiver on the team by far---- that would include Mardy Gilyard.
