Here's the situation...
Team A has the ball with approx. 12 sec remaining in the 4th quarter at Team B's ~ 25 yrd line, down 14-16. With 12 sec remaining, Team A runs another play - HB to the outside. Team A is tackled well short of the 1st down line (important to note b/c, as we all know, the clock stops after a 1st down). Team A maintains that around the 3-4 second mark, Team A tried hitting the select button to call timeout (note: Team A has all 3 timeouts remaining). For whatever reason, the timeout does not "register." With 1 second remaining on the clock, Team A presses start to call a timeout that way. On the start menu, timeouts are grayed out. Now, after approx 15-20 seconds of frantically trying to see if there is any possible way to call a timeout within the start menu (e.g., coaches challenge, etc.), the game inexplicably cuts from the start menu screen to the videography of players shaking hands, kneeling on the ground, shaking their heads, commentators saying "what a great game we had today," etc.
Team A maintains (a) why wasn't Team A allowed to call a timeout when Team A clearly had 3 timeouts; if Team A would have been able to call a timeout, Team A could have stopped the clock and kicked a 30 yrd FG (essentially a gimme, and thus won 17-16) and (b) because Team A never saw the clock hit 0, the game therefore had to have "glitched".
Team B is maintaining that if (a) Team A was worried about time, Team A should have never run the ball in the first and place and (b) by the players shaking hands and celebrating video, the game had clearly ended.
So... the question is... who won. Team A (17-16) or Team B (14-16)

timeout wouldn't have been grayed out if the play was over. Sounds like the play wasn't dead yet....and it probably wasn't 3-4 seconds left, but one second. Tried to pause or call timeout before the play was blown dead.
Team A should have taken chance out of the equation and kicked the field goal instead of running one more play.
Poor clock management. Team B wins.

if the play was dead with 3-4 seconds left, the timeout registers, team b wins.

Does everything on this site have to be 'Serious Business'? Chill out dude. I care, and thus asked the question to see what everyone else thought. Congratulations on looking like a complete fool.

Also, I love how it's unanimous (to this point) that team A has no leg to stand on.

Team A's coach should be immediately fired after this horrific loss. Poor clock management, poor play selection will usually lead to a loss. Tell the line judge that as soon as the play is dead you are calling a TO.
Even if you do get the TO you still have to make the FG. It is an approx. 42 Yard FG. Not a gimme by any stretch.

Team A is a bitch.
With such little time left, why run the ball to the outside and risk this situation. You already had great field position for a FG, run it off tackle to try to kick from the middle of the field.

It is sad when people make video games this much of serious business as well, to play devil's advocate... Nothing wrong with pointing that out.
But Team B wins, it is what it is.

Timeouts do not have to be granted simply because they are requested.
The reason why isn't as important as the fact that the timeout never occurred. Sounds like the "select button" wasn't* hit cleanly.
Team B wins.

This happened to me..I was tied 14-14 with a guy with 13 seconds left..clock stopped and 1 TO left. I was on the left hash and wanted to get it to the middle for the game winning field goal. I run my play..get it right in the middle..play is over with 9 seconds left. I start trying to call TO with 5 seconds left..it won't let me via select. I pause..TO is not available. I return to the game and watch as the final 3 seconds tick off as I mash the select button. I eneded up winning in 3 OTs, but I learned my lesson. I kicked a FG with 10 seconds left to win a game later on when usually I would run it down and I took my chances kicking it off. Team B wins, but its not poor clock management..he should have been able to call TO, there is something that can go wrong in the game and he should learn and not do it again.

I feel bad for Team A, but the game ended 16-14.
