had these years ago in a restaurant in Toronto, I think...the most delicious combo of a hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage and deep-fried...
periodically I've tried to recreate it at home...but so far, not the same.

a close facsimile was something I just recently stumbled upon in a restaurant in New Phila which were called 'Hog Eggs'...minus the sausage, but served with wing sauce....excellent, and probably a food that goes equally well with orange juice or beer.

anyone with any experience with these?

Love 'em- but not enough fat or cholesterol. Should be bacon wrapped. Seriously, have made them a few times, but the sausage "wrap" always shrinks exposing the egg to the oil. Maybe I should use better sausage.

Use a toothpick to skewer and hold everything in place.

Never heard of Scotch Eggs, but they sound delicious. I'm picturing a Scotch Egg w/ a biscuit and some gravy, now I'm hungry.

SCOTCH EGGS

1 lb. sausage
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1 egg
1 tbsp. bar-b-que sauce
1 tbsp. flour
Salt & pepper to taste
6 hard-boiled eggs
1 egg, beaten with 1 tbsp. water
Dry bread crumbs
Oil for frying

Mix sausage with the 1/2 cup bread crumbs, the eggs and bar-b-que sauce, salt and pepper. Divide into 6 equal portions. Add coat the boiled eggs with a little milk. Shape the sausage mixture around each egg, brush with egg and water mixture and coat with crumbs.
Deep fry the Scotch Eggs for 5 to 7 minutes in hot oil but not too hot until brown. Drain and serve whole or cut in half with tomato sauce and veggies. Hamburger meat can also be used.
