Albeit we have a total of six kids to outfit for this upcoming school year, by Mother of God this is costing us some serious cash.

My parents would have never dropped this much cash on us to go back to school.

Is anyone else totally overwhelmed by what it costs to send a kid back to school?

Have not had to do this for last couple of years and I'm really glad to miss it!

I know I've spent WAAAAAY too much. Hundreds too much. But nothing fits them! Older son grew 7 inches since begining of last school year, younger one 4 inches. Anyone who says boys are easier/cheaper than girls is sadly mistaken lol

We went last weekend to Mansfield to finish up on the back to school shopping. They had some awsome sales going on, and we ended up saving more than we spent. But it's still a mini bundle. Of course I told my wife I'd be needing a new arsenal for this year's bowling season, so that didn't make her very happy either!! :)

Outfitted 4 kids (3 girls) for start of school for a long time:
3 pairs of jeans (wash on Wednesday), 4 or 5 tops (they mostly wore HS sport-related t-shirts & then used these as fill-ins),
1 pair of tennis shoes, 1 pair of everyday shoes (flip-flops or "mules") & 1 dress pair
1 dressy outfit w/2 interchangeable tops
1 winter coat every two years
Always watched for sales - never felt like I was spending a lot of money at any one time & they always received clothing for their birthday/Christmas from us & others.

Only one child... a 4 1/2 year old... but my wife is doing a great job.

I know what "Brown" can do for us... they stop at our house about four days a week... LOL In all seriousness she does a great job of buying quality clothes... maximizing their use, and then having successful garage sales providing money for the cycle to continue.

I can't even argue that. But between jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, school shoes, football cleats for both of them, soccer cleats for the younger, gym shorts, etc, even if they didn't shop like girls, I'd still be spending a bundle. (I will say their shoe fetish is becoming a problem that they are going to have to start funding)

We had three girls .....oouch
We would drop $300.00 on each to start school but that would slowly move into the $700.00 before the four week of school

Note: My wife would go to Goodwill and pick up jeans and old shirts for going to camps and art classes
The kids liked the older jeans and would wear them to school. They would not admit to this at the time but now they tell us.

Just one kid here who is starting kindergarten and I'd say between supplies and clothes it was around 225.

Luckily, I only have one and he has never been a "brand" person. Mostly he wears t-shirts, etc. Plus, grandma takes him clothes shopping before school starts which helps more than I can say. Biggest thing for me will be the school fees (approx. $100) and Pay to Participate ($100).
