Let's discuss the idea of a forum specifically for these petty little pissing matches that end up derailing legitimate threads. It seems like a viable solution to me, just toss all the crap into one spot and let the idiots battle it out.

I would likely put it as a sub-forum of serious business. Not sure of a name for it, though. I would also put a disclaimer of what it is for so that people who complain about the loose moderation can't bitch about that particular forum.

What rules should the forum have? Any, other than the porn/gore rule.

"Enter at your own risk" disclaimer so footwedge doesn't threaten to Sue everyone.

No rules. Everything is fair game. Just the no porn/gore rule.

Yeah, personal attacks in that case would be alright... just maybe a disclaimer that you shouldn't engage in arguments in that subforum if you don't have thick enough skin to handle it.

Also, divulging identity still isn't cool (NOTE TO FOOTWEDGE: pointing out alter ego user names by using an IP isn't divulging identity, it means divulging TRUE identity like real life names, house addresses, etc.)

It may be a good idea, but I doubt that it stops the trolling on pro sports threads...like Capone and COA

You could do something high tech to Capone and those dudes. Give them a warning for trolling, then if they do it again, re-direct every forum they click to the Shit Talk forum.

It won't stop it, but hopefully if we send their shitwrecks over there they will continue the argument some over there, which will keep them at least somewhat out of the Pro Sports one... there's no way someone that stupid can be in 2 places at once.

Well, as Justin mentioned he'd done to half that group, if guys like Capone and CoA decide to be assholes for the fuck of it, they can become Miserable Users.

Which is a function that needs to be used sparingly (to the worst of the worst). I think we all know that some people will turn into major league bitches about "jj tactics" if all of a sudden a ton of troll-types suddenly have major problems negotiating this site while most people don't.

If it happens to the previously mentioned users, nobody is going to give a fuck

I don't know. Can't you see someone like Ernest or Snot (who do seem half bright when it comes to technology) going on some "let's stir the pot" tirade if they put 2+2 together if they notice that the only people having major problems with the site seem to be the posters no one likes?

It's easy for me to visualize because there are a few posters who take delight in doing things like pointing out how one thing might be enforced while a similar thing isn't...in an over-the-top way (ie: -society- due to the deletion of a jew-comment back in the day)
