Torii gets shifted to RF.

Hunter is leading the MLB in misplays in CF with 24 this season. Torii is one of the best at catching balls at the wall when in need of timing it out and jumping high......but every other aspect of his CF play is not as good as he has always been received.

9 GG is misleading...yes he was a very good overall CF for several years and deserving of 3-5 gold gloves and has a killer smile.....but his grab of Bonds in the All-Star game is what always gets shown....it was neat and a great all-star moment.

Torii has been a good player over many years....but I bet his offensive numbers are lower than 90% of big league fans would guess.

He's 35 years old....

* Only 2 times in his career has he missed fewer than 14 games
* Has NEVER scored 100 runs in a season
* Only 2 times over 155 hits
*Only once over 29 HR (31 career high)
*2 times over 100 RBI
* Has never hit .300
* Has never had more than 50 walks in a season
* 7 times over 100 K
* career .805 OPS

Again....very solid player for over a decade.....but overrated by many in many categories. A lot of all-star games for those numbers

If you're looking for all-time over-rated CF...

I'll throw Eddie Milner into the mix.

The all-star game is a seasonal reward, not a career reward.

His 4 all-star seasons were:

.289, 29 HR, 94 RBI, .859 OPS, 37 doubles, 23 stolen bases.
.287, 28 HR, 107 RBI, .839 OPS, 45 doubles, 18 stolen bases.
.299, 22 HR, 90 RBI, .873 OPS, 26 doubles, 18 stolen bases in only 119 games.
.292, 16 HR, 65 RBI, .863 OPS, 27 doubles, and 9 steals in 106 games so far this year.

Gold gloves all 4 seasons. All pretty deserving of an AS appearance in my book.

And his career numbers are pretty solid too.

His 162 game average is .275, 25 HR, 95 RBI, .805 OPS, 35 doubles, 17 stolen bases, and a gold glove.

^^^this. Pretty solid player. I really don't hear a lot of people touting him as one of the best of all time, so I don't feel he's 'overrated'.

Lol....huh?????

I also think he's a solid player and not overrated. I don't think anyone would call him one of the best of all time.

I never said he was one of the greatest of all-time...just that he has not been nearly as good as 9 gold gloves.

And those really aren't all-star numbers during those years batting middle of the lineup. He makes the all-star team every year he's even in the talk........he never gets snubbed because again.....

ah forget it.....Torii is only behind Griffey and Edmonds the past 25 year of CF

What does this have to do with what he does in the Field?

Not a damn thing.

Just some offensive facts for the 4 time all-star.

Sorry for providing info.

Funny, one of THE very best managers in baseball doesn't.

24 misplays this year....MOST IN THE MAJORS

He was one of the very best for sure in 2000 and 2001 and very very good for about 3 other years.

In his defense he has done nothing to attain my opinion. The media and sports people have over done him.

This year he is healthy and having one of his better years.

Quick, how many 35 year old CFs are there? Of course he is bound to fall off a little in the field, not a surprise.

Also, I'm with 95% of baseball fans who would all say Hunter is a solid player, nothing special. I've never thought of him as one of the top 20 players in the league.

Good to know the OC folks view him as he should be.....a solid middle of the order guy who was a very good CF for a good while and deserving of a couple all-star nods and about 4 or 5 gold gloves.

Must be Torii Hunter day.

Hits a huge 450 ft HR and then got a bad call 1st strike and boderline 3rd strike and argued and then got tossed....during arguement his helmet rim bumped ump Mike Kulpa and then Kulpa got bitchy......Hunter had to be restrained mulitple times and then slung stuff onto the field.

Probably a small suspension.

geez...what do you have against Hunter? I'm not a fan of his at all, but the guy has had a pretty good career. I don't follow his play routinely, so I'm not qualified to say that his Gold Gloves are deserved ....but a lot of people apparently feel he he does. Show me something where his peers don't respect him and I'll give you your point. Seriously....he's moved to RF at age 35? So what? At that age it wouldn't be unusual to lose a step. What does that have to do with what he won when he was younger?

Well, You did call him "All-Time Most Overrated CF Torii Hunter....so it seems you were lookinbg for an arguement/discussion.

I think you are a bit harsh. Guys get moved to less demanding positions as they get older all the time. CF is an up the middle position, and he is no longer a spring chicken.

What CF is more overrated? Of any era?

Again, no one on here formed my opinion of this......sports highlight shows/broadcasters/analysts have done this to me.

I provided the game recap because it was interesting to watch all parts of it.....gigantic HR, crappy call, borderline call and a great confrontation (that I agree completely with Hunter) and umpire getting pissy...then slinging stuff.

I apolgize for the guessing of how persons on here thought of Hunter. He's been a very good CF for 10+ years and now he's the age where it's time to move to RF.

I have the same issues with how often Jim Edmonds played it into a diving highlight and then rolled around in pain....Edmonds made 100's of diving plays that were just tremendous.....he had just as many that he timed out in order to dive...which I viewed as unecessary....I still feel Edmonds is one of the 3 best catching CF of all-time.

Kirk Gibson's famous GW HR in Game 1 of the World Series.....love the call, love the moment......but the 2nd most overrated highlight of all-time.....Carlton Fisk has #1
