I sign no credit card on the back with my signature .. with a black permanent marker I put CID.

Do you sign your name on the back of your Credit Cards? or Do you use the CID method?

I never sign mine either. People even turn the card over and check it, and still don't ask for id.

Do you have CID on the back?
I always get ask to see my ID.... i think it is a good idea and that those that ask to see my ID are doing me a service to protect my ID.

Leave it blank. Mostly I use my card for gas so the pump doesn't ask for my ID or when in school I purchase books off Amazon with my card.

Left blank.

No reason to sign it.

And I rarely sign my name when buying things at Giant Eagle or something. Half the time I just print "ME" on the little machine thing. Never been a problem.

The reason to sign is that your credit card provider requires it for the card to be valid in accordance with the CC agreement not just between you and them but the vendor and the CC company. If there is any case of CC fraud, they might investigate a vendor that would have a copy of the signature on the receipt.

Granted, online purchases and gas station swipes won't show anything, and often vendors won't check. But if you write CID or something else on the back, the vendor isn't obligated to accept it. If a dude 'named' John Williams steals another John Williams' card, what would the ID show? A different John Williams, that the vendor has no idea if that is the correct John Williams, or even a legit John Williams.
