CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP)—West Virginia student managers, graduate assistants and other non-coaching staff worked with football players on their skills and techniques in violation of NCAA limits during the Rich Rodriguez era and under current coach Bill Stewart, according to NCAA allegations released Thursday.

The NCAA said this week that there were five major and one secondary rules violations committed by the Mountaineer football program from 2005 to 2009.

The NCAA said both Rodriguez and Stewart failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance. Similar allegations were leveled against Rodriguez during an earlier, separate investigation at Michigan, which in May admitted it had committed a series of violations related to practice time and coaching activities.

He should be good as gone anyways...before he completely destroys a once proud program. I can't believe 9 wins would save his job...oh how far has the mighty fallen.

Oh, and I need to add, 2 of those 9 have to be against a combination of Notre Dame, Michigan State, Ohio State, or Wisconsin

One thing to remember, if WVU and RRod didn't know they were violations, why would he know at UM? I would expect that he committed the same violations under WVU. The fact the Stewart also committed them almost proves that it was a case of WVU not knowing it was a violation.

I really think if the FREEP hadn't brought this issue to light, the violations would still be occurring, and life would be normal.

With the amount of hours that the players reported in the first Free Press article they were violating practice regulations by, it would have come out eventually. You can't practice nearly twice as long as your allowed without someone eventually noticing or saying something. It's also possible that he broke the rules to a greater degree at Michigan than at WVU because of the greater pressure to win at Michigan.

You may argue that he didn't know he was breaking any rules and that the school didn't know he was breaking any rules, but come on! He violated practice times! Everyone knows there are regulations about how much you're allowed to practice out of season and how much you're allowed to practice in season. How could you be a D-1 football coach or an entire athletic department and not know what the practice regulations are!? Besides, it's five MAJOR violations. if it were a minor violation or two that's one thing, but if you're committing five major violations, you either know the rules and chose to break them, or you're the biggest f-ing moron for not know what rules can cause you to commit major violations. Schools employ compliance officials to make sure you know the rules. If the rules were being broken to this degree, RichRod knew about.

Last I checked, 20 minutes per week is not twice as much practice. If it is, no wonder they aren't winning.

I'd actually be more worried if he hadn't done the same at WVU. It would show that he knew the limits but blatantly broke them at UM. I am no RRod fanboy. I think this is a make or break year for him. If he wins, everything goes away. But I do think he has been unfairly beat to death on issues that he shouldn't have been.

If the FREEP were in OSU instead of UM, they'd have the same problem.

So should Bill Stewart be fired?
