One of our solid Verizon Wireless connects has dropped us a line to let us know that Verizon Wireless has made successful end-to-end LTE data calls in 34 of the 38 test markets it is currently operating. This leaked document seems to confirm what Verizon had said back in June, that they are on schedule to meet their goal of 25 to 30 LTE markets live by the end of 2010. We’ve already seen prototype LTE data sticks, what we’re really interested in seeing is LTE handsets!

My question is...which of the so called 4g services are going to be the fastest?

It depends on which blogs/sites you choose to read and believe. Some are saying that LTE is faster. Others are saying that WiMax is faster.

I think it's interesting that Sprint has not closed the door on LTE...and that leads me to believe that LTE might be the better option. That is just my opinion though, and I have no facts to base that on. I just find it interesting that Sprint would invest billions into WiMax, but not completely close the door on LTE. It makes me think that Sprint invested the money simply to get the title of "First 4g Network" and will switch to the better option when it is viable to do so.

TMO's HSPA+ is just a stop gap before they go to LTE.

They are committed to LTE, and the HSPA+ is just an upgrade to their current 3g network to give "4g-like speeds" until they can make the switch to LTE.

oh...gotcha.

I dropped tmobile recently, so I figured that with my luck...they will end up with the best network now....

I wouldn't worry about that. LTE and WiMax right now are just going to be for data. Carriers are going to rely on their network that is already in place for voice calls. So TMO is going to have great data...but you still won't be able to make a call anywhere.

Well, Sprint is also the worst of the bunch. So unless you think 4G will be different with Sprint, LTE with Verizon is pretty much a no-brainer.

Plus, it will take a few years to build out the network (at least for VZW, not sure about Sprint), and so getting VZW's 3G everywhere else is something to consider. I hear Sprints' 4G is great, in the handful of spots you can get a signal

Sprint is the worst of the bunch in what regard? I have absolutely no experience with Sprint, I just know that AT&T is junk. My wife sent me a text on Saturday that I didn't receive for 4 hours. And we were essentially 5 feet away from each other when she sent it.

AT&T has spotty coverage in many places, but Sprint is the original king of dropped calls (they're cheaper, and their oversold networks reflect that). They consistently score in the bottom for service. As always, you get what you pay for. Maybe it will be different with 4G, but their track record says stay away.

Now cue the handful of poster who love Sprint and never have a problem....
