"In the surf zone, where many attacks happen, sharks need to make quick decisions," he says. "Humans on surfboards—hands splashing, feet kicking—can trigger a shark to think there's trouble or a wounded animal, and it looks like an easy meal."

The jumping great whites were incredible last night. Was even more amazing to see the shark react so fast that it spit out the fake seal before it hit the water again.

Woman: Shark took me for a ride
As Judy Fischman swam in the Atlantic Ocean here Thursday, she suddenly found herself lifted above the water on the back of a large dark animal.
"My first thought was 'I hope this is a manatee,' " Fischman said Friday. "Then I saw the black tail."
"Shark," she thought. "Then I saw other sharks and I thought, 'My God, how am I going to escape a whole group of sharks?' "
