Jerry Rice will be inducted into the Pro football Hall of Fame 2 weeks from Saturday. The list of former inductees who are coming to Canton has been released and Montana is not on the list.As a matter of fact he will be at some show that weekend selling his autograph for a shit load of money.

I remember a few yrs back the MVP's of the Super Bowls were honored at the Super Bowl and he declined that as well.

I thought because Rice was a big part of his career he would come back to honor him.I guess money is more important to Montana than someone that basically got him inducted.

Wasn't Montana the guy that wanted some appearance fee a few years back at a function that all the other "Legends" were doing it for free?

It's capitalism, I'll never be mad at someone tryin' to make some extra cash, no matter how much he's already made.

I understand that Montana has a prior comittment, even if it is selling autographs but he's been pretty wierd about attending these type of functions over the years.

IMO,no Jerry Rice,no HOF for Montana...but as another poster mentioned,he doesn't usually attend these events (prior to his son enrolling there,I believe he's only been back to ND once since he graduated)

Didn't Joe win 2 before Rice? 1981 and 1984

The fact that Joe does those hideous skecher commercials is all you need to know........he either craves money or needs money.....those commercials are just embarrassing.

What do you expect out of a Notre Dame alum? If he has clocked out of the NFL and is done with all aspects then perhaps that should include making money off his superstar status, which was created by the NFL.

I think it ha long been established that Montana is a money hungry douche. I've also heard he is a giant prick in person, as well. Either way, he's free to do as he pleases.

I got a chance to meet Cris Carter in the parking lot at Cleveland Browns stadium last fall at the UT/OSU game, and he was a prick as well....maybe it was because his son sucked that day...rite of passage,I guess

Joe Montana created his own "superstar" status, the NFL didn't throw all those TD passes or win four Super Bowls for him.

BTW, contrary to what some have posted, Montana is a good guy. I met him a couple times in Pittsburgh, he never said no to a photo or an autograph.

Maybe Joe does not want to go and take any of the spotlight away from Jerry Rice. It is his day after all. If Montana shows up there will be significant attention casted in his direction when it should all be given to Mr. Rice.

I'll be honest, I've never seen a former inductee overshadow a current one. The whole weekend is geared towards the new guys and there is very little opportunity for them to be overshadowed by anyone.

Jack Lambert rarely attends any of the Steelers ceremonies. He's been to a few but usually tries to stay out of the spotlight now.

He's probably the most beloved Steelers player, too. The biggest fan favorite.

I guess everybody's different and some great players just want to move on and distance themselves from the game.

But there are some events you have to attend out of courtesy. Montana not being at Rice's enshrinement would've been very unclassy, but he did attend.

yep, that was my thought.

has nothing to do with Rice and Canton. Just his MO.

He was there today. My uncle works for the HOF and my other uncle is a volunteer each year and he walked him and his driver or whoever it was over to Fawcett when the Bengals buses were there. I asked him if he looked like a prick and he said no, that he was smiling and waving to fans and others around.

**Noticed that a few others said he was there too... sorry**
