Ralph Mothes and Paloma Werner of Cape Town Sailing Academy in South Africa are old hats when it comes to expeditions on the open seas. But there's no way they could have anticipated Sunday's wildlife encounter when they set out for a routine sail near Robben Island: A 40-ton whale leaped out of the sea and landed on the deck of their boat, the London Daily Telegraph reports. Luckily, Mothes and Werner both came away alive, as did the whale.

That would be a fun claim to submit to insurance. I AM NOT making this up - a whale jumped on my boat!

Could have been filming since they are an academy. Those may be still shots of it.

Just saw this on the news, awesome. The idiots knew whales were going to be around there, that's why they were there, and that's why someone was filming the whales. They saw it coming, it was like jumping every 20 yrds or for about 100 yrds until it finally hit hte boat...it was on a crash course for the boat and the people never jumped off or whatever. Classic moment in whaling history...hahaha.
