That would to back to back to back. As in, 3peat.
It was a great game late last night in the National Championship Game. Alabama was without All-Americans in QB Antwan Christian and RB Logan Scott. The start went to freshman quarterback Herbert Smith, who has seen significant action this season with Christian being banged up.
The Tide started out hot, leading 21-3 at halftime and went up 28-3 midway through the 3rd quarter. But Coach Kong and the Irish would not quit. A TD drive on the ensuing drive cut the lead to 28-10. On the next drive, QB Smith tried to hit his FB in the flats on a PA play, but was hit as he threw and the pass was picked off and taken to the house and we had a game at 28-17.
A holding call and a sack had Bama in 3rd and long inside the 10 on their next drive. ND brought the house and Smith found a wide open receiver 50 yards downfield for what would have been a back breaking touchdown, but the pass was dropped. A short punt and nice return setup another ND TD drive and the lead was cut to 28-24 early 4th quarter. Herbert Smith would throw his 4th and final INT of the game on the very first play of the next drive. Notre Dame was driving in for the go ahead score when on a QB scramble heading towards the goalline, QB Jerome Franklin fumbled and the Tide would get it back. A gut check TD drive for the Tide put the score at 35-24. Notre Dame was able to score again with a minute left, the 2 pt conversion was no good and Alabama recovered the onside kick, got one first down to seal the game and that was the final. 35-30. Bama goes back to back to back. Sloppy game. 9 turnovers, but a great, great game.
