Wife's new car (less than 1,000 miles) took a rock at about 75 MPH on the "interstate" known as I-64 this morning (I think Afghanistan has better roads than this). Fortunately no one was hurt, she said she nearly swerved for a moment but just held fast and took the flying piece of asphalt.

Just got back a couple hours ago from getting the chip repaired, it is street legal but we have huge-ass cracks on the passenger side. She wants a replacement, any ideas as to what the cost should be? It is a new Mazda CX-9 with heated windows and a rain sensor.

We replaced a windshield 2-3 years ago on our Camry. I think the total cost was around $200-250. If you're replacing a higher end windshield, I would guess that you're in the neighborhood of $300-400.

I replaced one 6 years ago for a 99 Sable and I think it ran me $185 from a local place.

Check your insurance glass coverage, sometimes if you have it in your policy it could be free.

Had the windshield replaced on my Mazda 6 about a month or so ago. Don't remember the exact cost, but it was less than $200.

New car glass is usualy more money. The after market glass companies have not copied and produced it yet.
Had a new truck and the winshield cost me over 500 bucks. That same truck 3 years later was at 200 bucks.

Check with your local auto glass companies. They will come to your home and have it done in about an hour.

with all that jewelry on the windshield it can't be as simple as my corolla, but i only paid 150 for that one. FWIW my first call would be the dealer, second call the insurance and third call to safelite.

Dealer would be a last ditch effort call. All they are going to do is call safelite and have them come install a piece of PPG glass stamped with the car's brand name

Seems like many things these days... The first question they ask will be "Is this going through insurance?" WTF.

I always get a price saying I will pay for it... seems like you get a better price on it. Then decide whether it is worth pissing around with the insurance... even though it may be covered, it would still be activity with a claim and we know how much they love to raise prices based on activity. It may cost you more in the long run if your insurance gets bumped up.

Just to be a one upper... (lol) About twelve years ago, I literally drove my truck in its first ten miles and got a crack in the windshield. Pissed me off something fierce.

Good luck

They ask you if its going through insurance so they can charge more, hence why you pay so much for insurance just like fraud!!

Yeah, I got a quote for $320 (not three fiddy) for the whole replacement, probably the best reputable quote. Insurance will pay for the chip, but not the replacement.
