It's all a matter of preference, I personally don't mind NB. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but if I had a vote, I'd vote RUSH as the worst band of all time.

I don't like Nickelback, but there are a lot of people that do. My wife and her friends all love them. I saw that they extended their North American tour because of the demand. I am not going to go see them, but they obvously have a large fan base.

I'm glad this thread popped up. I was out with this girl the other night and she has many great qualities but when the topic of music came up she said it: she likes Nickelback. Bleh!!!!!

So, my question is can I overlook this or is this a sign of some deep seated character flaws???

Deep seated character flaws/horrific taste.

Actually, ask her why she likes Nickelback. I bet she won't be able to answer with something relating to good songwriting at all (IE she's not going to say their interesting chord composition, creative solos, or meaningful lyrics).

If you like Nickelback your IQ is probably around 16.

I think it has something to do with every single one of their singles sounding the same.

They recently pissed me off when they added Three Days Grace to their tour. Would love to see them again but now I can't.

Wow, music is so subjective. That's why I always get a kick out of people saying this band or that band sucks.

Rush has a number of songs I like. Pretty unique and original in my book. I also like a few of NB's songs. I'd agree their songs are mostly the same and overplayed, so I understand the hate. But I still say they have a few good songs.

WOW! I guess I really am a "ignorant populist". I think DMB is terrific. Love the instrumentals. One of my favorite bands. Can't comment on their fans.

And there's the classic music snobbery comment. Dude, some people just like to hear a song that has a good rhythm and catchy chorus. Not everyone needs a song to encapsulate the meaning of life. There are very, very few songs I "identify" with or that "speak to me". I just want to hear a song that I enjoy listening to. I know a good song when I hear it. It may not meet a technician's criteria of a "good song", but by definition popular music is. in fact, good music because it is so subjective. When you are talking about chorus composition and meaningful lyrics and the like, you are defining criteria that not everyone shares or requires. If I want a moving/emotional experience, I'll go listen to a good aria.

And that's fine. Except even with bands I personally dislike I could usually find something good about them if I tried to look at them with a "technician's criteria" but that isn't the case with Nickelback. I literally do not understand what draws people to them.

Edit: Also, don't get bent out of shape just because you love Nickelback. :P
