CAVALIERS COMPLETE SIGN-AND-TRADE DEAL WITH MIAMI
CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Miami Heat to acquire the rights to five future draft picks and receive a traded player exception for free-agent forward LeBron James, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not released.
"This deal provides us with multiple key assets and additional flexibility as we move forward for both the short term and beyond," said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant.
Cleveland now owns two of Miami’s first-round draft picks starting no earlier than 2013 and continuing through 2017, the Heat’s 2012 second-round pick from New Orleans, and the future second-round pick Miami acquired from Oklahoma City. Additionally, Cleveland will have the right to swap 2012 first-round picks with the Heat. The trade also gives Cleveland a very large trade exception, which the Cavaliers can now use in trades within one calendar year.

ESPN announced the contract on Sportscenter as 6 years, $110.1 million.
Between the sign and trade's for him and Bosh, the Heat will not be drafting between 2012-2017

Yep, LeBron still took less than the max..
Cavs get to choose 2 1st round picks, with the choices being 2013, 2015 and 2017...
Cavs also get the right to swap 1st round picks in 2012...
Cavs get OKC's 2nd round pick and NO's 2012 2nd round pick...
We also have ALL of our draft picks form here on out.. So we have a crap load of picks and a very huge TPE.

Like to know why they took this. There aren't many players available to use that exception on. At least none I see cle being able to land. The picks are a bonus though. I'm worried they'll make a bad trade just to use that exception.

It's good that the Cavs be very proactive and moved forward. This will really help the Cavs and I don't wish any bad luck for anyone (I'm not telling the truth) but the "Big Three" have to stay healthy and one never knows. All kinds of things happen during the course of a season. I like Dwayne Wade and I think he deserves to win another Title given the amount of work he has had to accept, being surrounded by far less talent than the guy from Akron, and I really don't dislike Chris Bosh, although I think he was more instrumental than Dwayne in securing the third "piece of the puzzle" coming to Miami, but my attitude about the guy who was quoted as he stepped off the plane in Miami as saying "Now history can begin" or something along those lines, demonstrated his opinion about this whole event and it speaks for itself. I can't help it but I can't root for Miami under any circumstances...and then there is my long standing dislike for Pat Riley, who was the real architect of this whole scheme.

Hopefully, the Cavs can use these pieces to put together a very competitive team in a relatively short time -- but like it or not, there will be some serious rebuilding that happens despite what the Cleveland front office is saying.
As for the three douchebags...I have to believe that team will go on to be among the most hated franchises in sports history before all is said and done. If they fail, America will revel in it.

^^yeah, other than Miami fans, most will want see them fail. Reminds me of when ASVSM played in the state tourney....there was usually around 15000 people in there rooting against them.

Good point, I've been thinking that since these plans were initially released some time ago. I feel kind of bad for Bosh. Inevitably at some point Wade will hurt his shoulder and be wheelchaired off, and Lebron's elbow will still hurt so he'll keep shooting left-handed and disappear.
Then it'll be up to Bosh and a bunch of scrubs to win.

Glad to see Dan Gilbert did something wise for once over the past week and didn't allow spite to influence his decision.

This is really good news. Helps take some of the sting out. I am really disappointed in how some of our brethren are attacking the hurting Cav's fans over this whole business, too.

Can I not talk NBA in peace? Read something other than Cavalier based news. What I am saying is consistent with what others around the nation are saying.

Nah I'm being serious. Dan Gilbert said that the Cavaliers would not sign and trade Lebron James. This was out of spite. He did not want to give Lebron James a new handpicked team and max money. I'm sure he also didn't want to be known as the guy who traded James.
However, taking emotion out of this and thinking logically... a sign and trade was their best attempt to salvage something from the aftermath. Instead of getting nothing, they get the trade exemption and a bunch of picks. They can now build for the future a little more easily.
Which was my point before you got butt-hurt. Gilbert was not going to trade him out of spite, which would have been a mistake. However, he finally calmed down and did what was logical
