5 guys have signed up so far.

David Ortiz
Corey Hart
Matt Holiday
Miguel Cabrera
Vernon Wells

That is a pretty weak field of guys in my opinion.

Pretty weak, I agree. Ortiz will probably win as hes the only PURE HR hitter of the bunch.

Votto will probably end up on there if he makes the final vote, seeing as there are only 2 NL guys on there right now.

Why not get Josh Hamilton on there?

I thought I saw somewhere that he declined the invitation. Something about the last time he was in it it took him a month and a half to get his swing back to where it was before the Derby.

I was thinking the same thing about Votto.

And Cano is still on the fence about whether he is actually going to do it or not.

Most player decline. It isnt as if they dont ask the top HR hitters every year.

All MLB has to do is fly in Pittsburgh's starting pitchers to Anaheim to pitch the home run derby.

They'll have biggest home run numbers ever and the event will be an amazing success.

I want to see a pitcher sign up for the home run derby. At least there would be something to talk about with the snoozefest that currently is signed.

this.

the slam dunk contest is starting to resemble the same thing in the NBA

The game's top hitters figure...they have nothing to prove and everything to lose...no reason to go out there and take a chance they will wear the collar.
Unfortunately, this year, there are not even young up-and-comers, which sometimes makes it exciting...

they do need to develop some kind of pitchers challenge, though...that would be novel...

Carlos Zambrano (heavily medicated) and Micah Owings (just there for fun) I'd definitely love to see participate.

Honestly, Jonny Gomes or Jeff Francoeur would also be great players to watch. They would be very entertaining and it wouldn't mess their swing up at all.

It'd be sweet to see Carlos Zambrano and Dontrelle Willis go head to head in a home run derby.

This sucks. I remember when it used to be sweet with dudes like Griffey, Frank Thomas, Big Mark, Sosa, etc.

I think Gomes would be a good one for sure. And you're right, he swings for the fences on almost every swing anyway lol

Also, Robbie Cano declined today. As well as Pujols and Ryan Howard.

Miguel Cabrera will win this year. Has a great swing and power to all fields. He will put on a show and hopefully start getting some recognition around the league as one of the best hitters in all of baseball. Since he is only leading all 3 triple crown categories right now.

I agree with KnightXC1. Cabrera is a tremendous hitter. Probably the best pure hitter in the contest. Maybe the best pure hitter in baseball right now. If he is on, he'll win the HR Tournament.

After last night, I want to second this motion. In a 6-3 loss to Houston last night, five of those surrendered runs came via four home runs. One of those "so bad, it's comical" deals. Daniel McCutchen (who gave up three dingers in five innings) NEEDS to pitch the derby!

I think Brandon Phillips would do well in a home run derby, but I don't want him in it. haha

And to third the motion, currently Houston is up on the Pirates 2-0 in the fourth inning. Thanks to Lance Berkman, who is 2-2 with 2 solo home runs. I want to hunt down every fucking pitcher on their staff and stab them in the face until I no longer feel hate...
