Lost in the FA shuffle is Durant re-signing with the Thunder for 5 years. No details, but I'm sure it's maximum.

Because he isn't a free agent and isn't deciding between multiple teams.

Hmm a superstar in a small market who is the heart of a team and a city, re-signs with his team avoiding all the free agent hype? Imagine that.

That destroys the rumor that he will be a Laker in a few years when his contract was up.

How quickly people forget that Lebron also signed an extension to stay in Cleveland...

Exactly! Good for him! No whirlwind city to city tours televised by ESPN or no "look at me" hour long shows to announce his intentions. Quiet and behind the scenes. Bravo!

Having seen the drama that can occur when your star only plays on short contracts, I am sure OKC was happy to see Durant up for 5 years instead of 3. He clearly is not worried about being boxed into a bad situation, and wants to give his management a chance to really build a team for the long haul rather than being forced to make a series of hasty stop gap moves because they don't have a title yet and the clock is ticking on free agency.

Sounds like you might be taking a slight back handed slap at a certain superstar that we're all too familiar with. ;)
