I listened to the entire interview..he did say it,but with a tone of uncertainty...however,IMO,the Big Ten took a big step forward during the bowl season--now they need to keep the momentum going in the right direction

considering his record in both leagues, his opinion is diminished to me:

23-14, 16-8 in the SEC
44-53, 12-28 in the B10

He answered the question that was asked, and gave his explanation of why. He also did not throw the Big Ten under the bus in the process.

Can't ask for much more.

What does he record have to do with it. Are you trying to equate the talent and resources he had at Florida wiith what he has at Illinois? The man has coached in both conferences. His opinion is likely more valid than anyone else's on the subject.

This all being said, he did acknowledge the B10 has a couple teams that could play with anyone in the B10 and that the conference as a whole is closing the gap.

Why is this news? Had he said the Big10 was better than the SEC, it might be worth discussing.

Ron Zook is pure class. He only said that to remain humble. Ask an SEC coach and they will be classless and say "The SEC is always the best football conference."

The sad part is, if any of these SEC teams ever came up north they'd lose every game and you can take that to the bank.

My father was college roommates with Zook. He is 100% class. He was at Florida. He is at Illinois. However, lets not compare the jobs. Zook was knocked down about 3 or 4 pegs after being fired at Florida. Florida is one of, if not the best job in college football. He had the best resources and a gold mine to recruit to and STILL got fired. He is only at Illinois because of his success as an assistant at Florida and brief stint in the NFL. Not because he's a great coach.

Now, had he put up that record in the SEC after being run out of the Big Ten, I might think different, but comparing his W/L record really doesn't make much sense.

Zook might be class, but he is a dolt. He isn't the brightest guy on this planet. He did some pretty stupid things while at Fla and often times comes off a bit arrogant as well. Common sense passed him by.

You can basically be a good guy and be a bad coach.

Zook has proved it.

I noticed he said "probably". He can't say "definitely", or else he would be ignoring the past decade of head-to-head bowl matchups between the two conferences.

I'm pretty sure Zook was referring to this upcoming year. I still don't see how this is news. Pretty obvious the OP was attempting to stir the pot.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the past many years. I doubt, or would hope he doesn't know a whole lot about how good the SEC teams will be this year. He's on the hot seat at Illinois, so he's probably more concerned with that.

From the article:
At this time, it probably is but I think there's teams in the Big Ten Conference just as well as there's teams in the Southeastern Conference that can play against anybody.
Probably referencing the very recent past, but I also believe it is in regards to the current state of the conferences.
