I think a lot of Cavalier fans have been spoiled over the past few years. Players like Lebron James do not grow on trees. There are only 4-5 Tier 1 players (the Lebrons of the world) in this league. Most years you need at least one Tier 1 guy to even sniff the Finals. Sometimes teams without Tier 1 guys can get there but they must have a ensemble cast of really good tier 2 guys (Boshes, Stoudemires, Rondos). The point is that not everybody can get a Lebron, Kobe, or D-wade because they are so rare.
The Knicks are probably being pragmatic here. They probably see the writing on the wall that they aren't getting Wade or Lebron. After that you have the Amares and Boshes. The Knicks probably leaned toward Amare because of his history with D'antoni. (By the way your argument of Amare being overrated might have water if he played with a new coach, but he is perfect for D'antoni's system; he'll be uber-productive). I say the Knicks were being pragmatic because in all honesty we are probably going to see everybody go back to their former teams (save Bosh). The Knicks are now assured of getting a great talent (and not being shut out after all the purging). The fans will be happy with this move and the Knicks will have made it seem as if they are serious about a championship. The Knicks can now get their ducks in a row for 'Melo whenever he and the Nuggets decided their time together is up.
