Did read the whole story I couldn't make it past the excerpt from the article below.
http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/Joey-Chestnut-Hot-Dog-Eating-Contest-results-070410
"Chestnut pushed and shoved the wieners into his mouth, then chomped and swallowed while simultaneously reaching for his next fistful and bouncing up and down on his toes. "

Maybe Kobayashi was just trying to give Chestnut a certified letter.

This contest sucked without Kobayashi pushing Chestnut. He ate 34 hot dogs in the first five minutes, 19 in the second five minutes. He was on record setting pace (or close to it) then just cruised at that point, keeping pace enough to make sure no one came within 8-9 hot dogs.

Record was 68, and obviously you slow down as you go on... he was behind most of the way to begin with (there's no way he eats 34 in the first half and another 34 in the second half) and then just went into cruise control.

I think these contests are fucking stupid, especially with the way this country is so damn fat. I seriously would love to punch these fuckers that participate in these bullshit contests in the fucking mouth. This coming from a 31 year old, who has maintained his high school weight of 150-155 pounds.

This really should have been an option on the vBookie thread about this event. I'd have banked major vCoin.

The guy who won and made the competition as famous as it is, is Kobayashi. He's not American.
And wow, you're 31 years old and weigh 150 pounds.. Seriously hope you're not taller than 5'9'.

Do some research moron. MOST of these guys are in great shape. They aren't your typical fat loafs dominating the Ponderosa buffets. They actually have ridiculous abdominal muscles. Google Kobayashi, Joey Chestnut, Eater X, Crazy Legs Conti, etc...and see how fat they are.
Kudos to you for weighing as much as 7th grader though. Maybe you should hit the weights Nancy.
And ccrunner - he DEFINITELY went into cruise control. Obviously the pace drops off, I didn't think I actually had to mention that. But his hot dog per minute rate went from 11ish down to 5 at the finish. This competition needs Kobayashi back. Nobody touched them the past three years, and no one touched Chestnut this year.

That was actually me and not ccrunner. I was just saying that he was behind the record pace all along (you had mentioned he may have been on one). To set a record he needed to be at something like 40-45 at the halfway point to set a record. He was clearly fucked as far as records go being at 50% of the record at the halfway point.friendfromlowry;411139 wrote:And ccrunner - he DEFINITELY went into cruise control. I'm sorry...but you're wrong. To set the record...Joey had to be at 34 1/2 hot dogs half way through...he was at 34. If you've watched him in the past 3 years...Chestnut picks up the pace in the last 3 minutes and really pounds some dogs. He was not fucked being at 50% of the record at the halfway point. He was actually in perfect position. But the fact that nobody was close allowed him to just relax those last 3 minutes and just keep his lead. If Kobyashi was competing...I'm sure that Chestnut would have set a new record today...despite his dehydration!

I've watched him... and though he has picked up at the end, his last 2-3 minutes don't match his first 2-3 minutes.
He usually comes out guns a blazing (like 10+ HDB/minute) to start, slows down, then has somewhat of a charge (but by no means is he doing 10 a minute) to end the thing. -
The ESPN announcers mentioned he need to come out at a 10+ pace at the beginning to break it (and sadly, that guy has covered it for enough years to know what he's talking about), and he was really never over 9 (Actually just saw the highlights again and watched their pace line, he was at 10 for a minute, already down to 7 per minute by minute #3). While Chestnut usually picks up at the end, he is not precisely duplicating his first few minutes... he is usually somewhere in between his initial rate and his middle time rate, which is enough to pull away from the entire fatigued field to blow them out.
But he definitely had no desire to pick it up today, as he had no competition. He could have shoved hot dogs up his ass for the last 3 minutes.

He tried to get on the stage Chestnut that's why he was arrested. Kobayashi is and and always will be the "FACE" of competitive eating.

that's because very few people knew anything about it until he burst on the scene and downed like 50 dogs the first yar that he won or something crazy
