Rocket scientists, they aren't....
Another Brown faces gun charges
Posted by Mike Florio on July 2, 2010 8:56 AM ET Earlier this year, Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers found himself under arrest for gun possession.
Now, another member of the Browns' defensive line faces similar charges.
On Thursday, Robaire Smith was charged with possession of a firearm in a commercial airport. The charge comes from a November 2009 incident at Bishop Airport, during which Smith had a loaded Belgium .57 caliber handgun in his carry-on luggage. (The article says it was a 5.7-caliber weapon. As a reader points out in the comments, that would make it an anti-tank gun.)
Smith's lawyer, Frank J. Manley, told the Flint (Mich.) Journal that the NFL already has disciplined Smith for the incident, a contention that seems inaccurate given that the charges were only filed on Thursday.
If Smith was indeed disciplined, no suspension was imposed.
Coincidentally, Smith was traveling with Rogers in April, when Rogers was arrested for possession of a loaded weapon at an airport. Naturally, Rogers claimed that he forgot that the gun was in his carry-on bag.
Are we the only ones who wondered for a second whether Smith was dumb enough to bring another gun to an airport in April, and that Rogers simply took the fall for him in light of the fact that Smith already had one strike against him?
