I'm hoping to head to a beach one day this weekend and am looking for suggestions. I wouldn't mind any beach from Port Clinton to Cleveland...anyone have a favorite?

Nickel Plate in Huron is small and nice. (They occasionally charge I believe) That's where I purposed to the old lady two weeks ago. (Technically on the rocks to the left of the beach).

When I was growing up, my parents and I often visited East Harbor and we would spend the day on the beach, pack a picnic lunch and have a great time. The beach really went downhill for quite a few years but the last time I was up there it seemed to have been cleaned up quite a bit. It probably isn't one of the nicest beaches around, but your childhood memories stay with you forever. I will always think of East Harbor fondly.

They do charge. It's like $3 per vehicle for Huron County resident and like $5 for non-residents. Port Clinton also has a very nice and vary large sandy beach right downtown (at least it used to be nice, I haven't been there is probably 10 years). I was at Nickel Plate last summer though and it is quite nice.

3 for Erie County residents isn't it? Huron is in Erie. I have a place the next beach over from Nickel Plate. It's a nice beach, can be a strong under-toe there though with the breakwall right next to it. Water's pretty rough right now, so the water is all turned up. Just FYI too, Saturday night Huron has fireworks on the river from the basin that you can kind of see from the beach, then Sunday night, a guy that owns a few Subways up here puts on his own show from the beach a couple hundred yards down from Nickel Plate.

yes, you're right, it's Erie county. That always used to confuse the heck out of me when I lived up there.

That beach in Port Clinton still exists and appears to be very nice. We were up that way about two weeks ago and there were quite a few people enjoying the day.

Yea, it does seem pretty dumb to have Huron and Sandusky in Erie County, with both of them being their own counties too.

We were not charged when we went 2 Saturday's ago so I don't know how they actually charge. I've only been there twice ever.

The beach at Geneva State Park is excellent. You'll think you're in Florida. This is a little east of Cleveland, but it's worth the extra drive.

Is this the Huron riverfest fireworks show or is that on the 10th?

Has anyone been to East Harbor recently. I want to know if the June Bugs, May Fly, Midgees are bothersome.

It's just the annual 4th of July Fireworks. They will have more for Riverfest the following weekend.

Also, not sure about East Harbor...but the May Fly and Canadian Soldiers haven't been too bad around the lake here in Huron. They have been showing up a little more this week with the winds coming strong out of the north. But the wind's supposed to switch and come out of the south starting tomorrow, so shouldn't be bad at all.

Nickel Plate is where we always go (I of course live in Sandusky...)

If you park outside of the beach entrance, you never have to pay.. Then you just walk up to the beach.

Was just at East Harbor on Sunday and there was no sign of the midges. It was a fairly nice beach, very easy to relax and have a fun day either picnicking, swimming or just laying out.

Does anyone up there know if the beach at Cedar Point is public, or do you have to have a house, be a park guest, or be staying in one of the hotel to have access to the beach?

I believe CP is public. I haven't gone in 7 years but back then we just had to pay to park.
