You can't have it both ways. You can't complain about the 50% of people who pay nothing when many of those people are middle class americans and then also repudiate policy proposals that would ensure that they paid federal income taxes. You can't complain that middle class americans pay no federal income tax and then also complain about them possibly paying some income taxes. The national median income is $44,389 and families earning up to $60,000 can easily eliminate any federal income tax burden.
