Kinda sad...I'm really starting to get into The Office

The show jumped the shark a couple of seasons ago. It is time for everyone to move on. Sadly, I don't see much of a future in acting for a lot of the cast members.

lol at Tom Cruise. I'm sure he'd be pumped to take a massive pay cut to join a rapidly-falling television show.

Colbert, Gervais, Laurie, and maybe even Sandberg are probably all above the role as well.

Really, they should just call it quits and send the show out on a good note. Come up with something new and original in its place. But this is NBC, they'll probably put Leno on from 9-12 every night.

There's still time to change his mind. But I can't think of a suitable replacement so I agree the show should end when carrel goes.

Other than that, most of the people on the show have been relatively minor TV actors their whole careers, or they aren't even actors. Most of the minor characters are played by writers or producers. Phyllis was actually the casting director and had never appeared on screen before The Office, so most will go back to doing their off-screen jobs and will all do just fine, I'm sure.

Honestly I'd rather just see them end the show when Carrell leaves instead of trying to keep a sinking ship afloat like nothing's wrong.

If they did replace him though, Hugh Laurie would be great, if you've ever seen any of his comedic roles he's a great comedic actor, but there's no way he leaves House to do this.

Steven Colbert makes sense since he is also part of the Daily Show family, the only problem is that it would be hard for him to play the role differently enough from the character he plays on his show.

There's no way that Tom Cruise would do this, although he would be very funny. I'm excited for his announced spin-off Les Grossman movie though.

To me Ricky Gervais is the obvious choice because he's hilarious and because he originated the role. You could even have him come on as David Brent, who just moved here from the UK where he used to be the manager at a similar company.

I would like to see Samberg on the show, but not as the boss. I think they could promote Jim to manager and bring Samberg on as a salesman or something to fill that void. Honestly, I see Jim being promoted as the most likely outcome, with someone else new being added to the sales staff.

Agreed! This move MAY actually save the show. I love the Office, but it has been a shell of its great self in recent seasons, to the point where it's barely watchable (I think the only "recent" episode that I truly enjoyed was the Jim/Pam wedding). Ricky Gervais would be a brilliant addition.

Dwight makes the show, not Michael.

I don't see how the show could continue though NBC is so desperate they'll probably try to milk until it is beyond dry. Michael is involved in every episode and has the most screentime by far, heck most of the other characters get their screentime by reacting to him.

I think Novak's future is off screen as a writer/director. He works already in this capacity for this show.

Ricky's show was nothing like the american one. His type of humor likely won't work with US office fans, and he is unlikely to change to the kind of ridiculousness that Carrell portrayed. Gervais' show was actually much much more realistic.

I believe that it's still NBC's second highest rated scripted show, which is why I don't think it will be canceled right away when he leaves. You just don't cancel your most popular shows, especially on a struggling network.

You may be right, but he's also done a decent amount of acting outside of the show as well (Inglorious Bastards for instance), so I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up down either path. I think the rest of the people on the show who are also writers and producers will end up back behind the scenes after The Office is finished.

I still think that he would be very funny. You don't want to bring someone in to replace Michael Scott that is exactly like him, because everyone would constantly compare the two and complain about how Steve Carrell was better. You want someone who will bring something different, new, and exciting to the show. And if you don't think that his humor will work well with US fans just go look at the success of Ghost Town and The Invention of Lying.

IMO,this will be the end of the show--it's run it's course...
