Can't complain if you never see it!
Their argument is the confrontations that it led to need to be avoided. The controversies were warranted! This may be the most ass backward solution possible.

Unfortunately given their current setup there is no way to 'correct' the mistake, as there's no replay or consultation available to anyone else. Therefore, with the stakes as high as they are in the WC, they generally don't show controversial plays. But, that's happened several times in Pittsburgh when they've hosted the Browns in games I've been to. Any controversial call is hardly ever shown (I think in the 5 or 6 games I've seen at Heinz never showed controversial calls. I always had to call my dad watching on TV to tell me what he saw, or wait to fastforward to it on the DVR).

Didn't the referee miss Zidane's headbutt last year and only award the red card after seeing the replay?

No, the 4th official saw it. You are able to ask the 4th official on those situations.
This is pretty common, most sports (if not all) dont show the controversial calls on the big screen.
Fifa itself is awful, but it is MOSTLY Sepp Blatter. Although, the whole organization backs him so adamantly its tough to see if its true or because they have to.

I think the main difference here is FIFA had no problem showing them during this World Cup until it made their referees (and in some cases the games themselves) look stupid.

^^Except when it is a blatant bad call against a home team. They show it multiple times usually in the arena/stadium.

I thought only the MLB had a rule in the books against showing a controversial call on the big screen?
They were actually talking about it today on 700 WLW and were debating why MLB refs are "protected" and NFL and NBA refs aren't in that regard.

Im pretty sure the NFL DIDNT allow it until they put in replay....
NBA doesnt really have huge controversial calls that cant be overturned by replay either.
MLB doesnt
Soccer doesnt
Those are the only sports I really know haha.

I think it's time for the fourth official to have more say in the match. Give him or her the ability to look at a monitor showing both penalty boxes, and then give the fourth official some way of informing the head official of infractions in a short period of time. Therein lies the issue...replay takes at least 3 seconds to process it seems. So 3 seconds of play allowed can result in a lot.
