Short par 4........he hit from the old men's tees so it was just about a 250 yard PAR 4...using his 3 wood he whacks a ball downhill about 100 yards and then hits 2 uphill 3 woods just off the edge of the green and putts onto the green about 12 feet away and drilled the putt (which was cool since he had about 6 putts just 2 holes earlier)

Good Stuff.....happy belated father's day for me.

That's extremely impressive....I think. I've only golfed twice so I wouldn't know. :)

I think I've only "honestly" bogeyed once...so, kudos! :D

He's played maybe 20 holes over this summer and last. He's hit some practice balls in the front yard and the traditional putt-putt on vacation.

Now we have to go hit some baseballs as he has a game tonight and the two sport swings can mess with each other.

I disagree with this.

I spent the years when I was 7-17 playing both golf and baseball as often as I could each day in the summer.

Often times I would wake up around 9 AM, play a quick 9 or really quick 18 and then be ready for an afternoon baseball game around 2 or 3.

The two swings never interfered with each other, if anything it was my golf game that was affected, minimally at best. Baseball is all about eye hand coordination and seeing the baseball more than it is about the swing, because it doesn't matter how you swing as long as you get the barrel of the bat to meet the ball.

If your son is anything like me (I started golfing at 5) and loves both sports, I would continue to allow him to do both but make sure you work on his baseball swing being more about his eyes and hands and less about the swing.

Just my advice. Take it for what it's worth.

Oh, and it's only a matter of time before he starts beating your ass on the course. I got my first bogey around the same age and by 12 I was beating my dad and haven't looked back since. I doubt my dad appreciates it lol.

It depends on the hole.....the first time out we played the back 9 and I had him tee off with me and his goal was pretty much to get it past the ladies tee which are about 70-80 from the men's tees.

Actually the hole he played today for his bogey the senior's tees are on the same surface as the women's just a few yards back.

If he would've been there when I hit the guy in the ass we would've had to leave the scene because he laughs at everything almost uncontrollably....glad he missed that

lhsp....I got my first PAR at age 6 the hole before he did......and much like you I played both and it made me a better low ball hitter and a golfer who could easily hit off the side of a hill.

Every summer for years I was either on the golf course or in a pickup baseball game of some type.....and I agree it affects the golf swing more. Every season in high school after baseball was over I would go golfing and couldn't get the ball in the air for a few holes.

My kid is just 6 remember and he's just learning both swings.....his baseball swing is a little golfy anyways and we just hit some off of a tee to make it better...and then I'll throw some tennis balls at him.....and if that doesn't work...well I'm the designated Dad to pitch for his coach's pitch team and I'll just hit his bat if his swing is all weird.....but IMO they affect each other enough that if you don't practice a little bit you won't do well at first.

I was beating my Dad by age 12 as well.....but I got a lot better than my Dad was then and if he's beating me before he gets to high school then he's going to be a good one......but I'll never let him win.....I am one of those Dads......he'll earn it and it'll mean more.

Didn't take him long on the Wii lol

Haha yeah. My dad always gives the excuse that raising me took him away from his golf game enough that he slacked so I could beat him, but at the same time I broke 80 at age 12 (from senior tees lol) so I don't really blame him for not being able to beat me since then.

Besides, I think the same way you do. I don't want to see the day where my son beats me, but if he does, he's gonna damn well earn it.

Of course that all goes out the door if I only have daughters. In which case I'll probably be in a mental institute.

Great for the little guy. Two of my buddies doubled #5 yesterday (assume it was #5). So, he is well on his way. Before you know it, the little guy will be playing in the Sunday game, cussing like a sailor, and pounding beers on the back porch with the rest of us idiots at the club.

lol yeah, but my low H.I. is +1.3.
I'm sure I could teach my kid golf as well as my father taught me (who's still a 6.3 at 60 years old).

My Dad never really taught me...just took me with him golfing about every summer Sunday evening from age 6-12.......after that one of our parents would drive 4 of us out to the course and we'd play most of the day nearly every weekday....mixed in with a lot of backyard plastic golfball shots at orange cones.

My Dad is about a 12-14 handicap and always has been as long as I can recall 1980-2010....massive fade and has his hands too far forward on his very low chips

....regardless of your ability........sperm ain't getting it done on the course

False.

One time I got my girlfriend to blow me on the course. Sperm on her face. I think it got the job done.

proud to say i'm affiliated with a site where a thread about a 6 year old boy degenerates into a comment like this in just 20 posts.

Touche sir.

And don't you love the fact that getting your child into golf is a plus for you, since you get to golf with him? It's a great excuse to go hit the links (not that it's really an excuse per se).
