. . . the most dominant win by any individual or team in any championship event ever?
Tiger won by 15 shots by posting a -12. Ernie Els who finished second at +3 said that second isn't a bad finish until you realize you were 15 shots back. It was almost as if Tiger was playing on a different (and far easier) course than the rest of the field that week.
Can you think of any other championship victory that was more dominant?
I'm only talking about wins in a championship setting, so for something like the World Series it would have to be the whole series, not a single game.

NBA Finals
Stanley Cup Finals
Super Bowl
Major Championship Gold
Grand Slam Tennis
World Cup
Olympics
Etc.

What does being favored to win have to do with something being considered a dominant win? The 15 stroke major win (record) will not likely be broken any time soon.

Bolt is a good call, and yes, I would consider Secretariat. His Belmont victory was a thing of beauty. He set the 1.5 miles record by 2.6 seconds and won by 31 lengths. If you take all three Triple Crown races together it's also impressive since he won all three races in different fashions (very late break in the Derby from the back, an early break from the back at the Preakness, and he took the lead early in the Belmont.

Yes, he scored 100 points in a game once, but it was a regular season game. We're talking about dominance in a championship event.

Would you consider the US Open the "Championship Event" for golf though? I mean If we are talking about championship events than I'd say for golf and tennis the Championship Events would be Masters/Wimbledon. I mean sure all of the majors are championship events but I feel that the Masters/Wimbledon are the majors that are the most prominent in the respective sports.

Yeah I realize that its a major championship, but in golf and tennis there are other tournments that arent majors that people are still considered a champion for would you list those if someone dominated them or what about a team who dominated the conference finals in the NBA/NFL/NHL I mean a lot of people see those as a major accomplishment and those are championships? I have no problem having all the majors championships in this discussion I just putting an idea out there to see if anyone else felt that way.justincredible;392723 wrote:The US Open is a Major Championship.

Hard to argue against Michael Phelps winning 8 golds in Olympics... I think people tend to be ignorant of the fact of how hard it is for swimmers to be good in more than one event or distance. What he has done is truly amazing. How much better than anyone else currently or in history is amazing. The amounts he has lowered world records by is just ridiculous.
Honestly, it's comparable to if Usain Bolt was competing in the 100, 200, 400 Long Jump and High Jump and winning all of those events at the Olympics.
The variety of what Phelps can do and be the best at in swimming is insane.

Reading at least the opening post all the way through before posting is always a good idea.
And I would agree that Wimbledon is the biggest Slam in tennis, but I would argue that the US Open is probably the biggest in golf. I think most fans and players enjoy the Masters the most, but the US Open is always the toughest test in golf which means more often then not you get a better champion. I think you may also be able to make an argument for the PGA Championship because it typically has the toughest field in golf (most players ranked in the top 50 and top 100 in the world).

I think the Masters produces the best champion. Usually a ton of random guys (Campbell, Micheel) can win one with a week of unreal straight driving and then fade into mediocrity. The best usually have won the masters the most. Just look at Tiger, Nicklaus and Palmer. They owned Augusta.
