He likely has some sort of dental issue, sleep apnea, or it could be a birth defect. There are other reasons but I believe those are the most popular. Here is some information on corrective jaw surgery.

My best friend in high school had this done. She was miserable for 6 weeks but is 100% happy she did it.

And yes she lost like 25 lbs and was a skinny bitch.

Yet why did he let us try and figure it out. It would've been nice not to let us hang and wonder what actually was going on.

I know a couple people who have had this done and they are both happy... needed to get their jaw re-aligned. Good luck. You'll be glad you did it.

I have a bite problem, and its causing a lot of pain...some cosmetic improvement will be nice, but its mostly to try and get rid of some bad tmj...i also may have sleep apnea, not sure tho

my girlfriend got it done last summer, similar thing she had a bite problem as well, she was swollen as hell for about 6 weeks but she has no regrets and loves the way she looks now, good luck homie

My dad had to have it done in his mid-twenties. His alignment was so bad that his lower teeth were cutting up the roof of his mouth. Thirty years later and there's no way you'd ever be able to guess it was misaligned.

in case anyone cared/was curious, the surgery went well and I have lost almost 20 lbs since last Wednesday...swelling is going down and I hope to be able to eat solids in a few weeks
