The Buffs will formally announce today that they are leaving the Big 12 for the Pac-10, according to a source close to the situation.

So is this good or bad for the Pac 10 and/or Big XII?
Will the three Texases leave Baylor behind or did this kill a major defection (meaning, the Big XII will simply add a couple more teams and remain intact)?
If the Baylor issue is a deal breaker, was this a good move for the Pac 10 who would then probably add Utah. Was Texas/Oklahoma/anyone else a better move than Colorado/Utah?

This is bad for the Big XII. Once one moves, they're all gonna jump ship. That conference is as good as dead.

Interesting speculation from an ESPN article:
"The coach said it's possible the Pac-16 would push for two automatic bids to the BCS, one for each division champion. That potential bonanza could open the possibility of the two division champs from one league playing for the national title, and it would eliminate the need for a conference championship game."
"The Pac-10 doesn't believe in a championship game," the coach said. "And coaches in the Big 12 don't like it anyway."

The only team that will ruin the conference from the North is Nebraska. Colorado looks like they are trying to one up Nebraska by trying to seem like they caused the conference collapse, and chaos in college football in general. Meanwhile people could give a shit less about them and just shake their heads to focus on what Nebraska and Texas are going to do. Colorado's domino isn't knocking over anything.

This is what I hope the Big Ten does. Screw conference championship games.
I also expect the other Big XII left that don't move will get gobbled up by the MWC and WAC.

This definitely dooms the Big XII. You now have the two flagship teams in the North division bolting for other conferences and Missouri is sure to follow if they are offered by the Big Ten. Even though those in Texas would prefer to see all four Texas schools leave together they are not stupid enough to let Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech get left out because no one wants Baylor. The Big XII will be no more.

So why even bother being in the same conference if you'll never play each other and can meet up in a bowl game?

Oh, I'm sure that they will have a round robin of each team in the other division. So, Oklahoma would play USC like every 3rd year and Texas would play Oregon every 3rd year. Something like that.
I just like the fact that they are possibly not making a conference title game, which I've always been against and see no point than only to make more money.

If you include Chicago, which is academically a Big Ten school, the big ten's average ranking drops to 48

No one is arguing that California has the best college system in the country (both public and private) but outside of that state the rest of the conference isn't close to being on the Big Ten's level. Yes, they have a few top schools in the Pac-10, but as far as the top academic conference in the country, it's hard to argue against the Big Ten (and I'm just talking D-1A football conferences).
