Really?

I consider them the best cable/dish provider out there, with the best customer service.

Ok, ok, I suppose I should give more details.

Moved out of my apartment, but my roommate decided to renew the lease and stay there. I called to see if I could switch it over to his name. They say no, all I can do is cancel it. So I say alright, lets do that then. Well there is a cancellation fee of 400+ dollars. Wait a minute...what? When I set it up, I specifically asked if there would be a cancellation fee after the guy told me that the service could be cancelled at any time. He said no. I ask if I'm signing a contract for a certain period of time. He says no. I have the guys name written down, I tell the lady on the phone today his name and that this is what he told me. Conveniently he isn't responsible...that's her response. "He knows that isn't the case, but either way, he isn't responsible." So I said I wasn't going to pay the 400+ dollars, so then all of a sudden she has another option of making my roomie an authorized user on the account. So I did that, however, my name is still on the account.

Fuckin' pissed, because I asked those things specifically and was told this exact situation wouldn't happen. This is aside from the fact that I was supposed to receive a free 100 dollar Visa card for signing up--something that no one there seems to know a fucking thing about either. Oh yeah, and our bill was supposedly never going to be higher than 30 bucks because he was extending us a deal through his boss to get the 2 boxes for the bedrooms for free. Got charged the whole way for both of them, couldn't convince anyone I was told that either. And amazingly no one could ever connect me to the guy I talked to originally either...un-fucking-believable. Best customer service my ass, I'll never have DirectTV again.

Oh wait, also told me they'd waive the install fee--got charged 20 bucks for that.

Received my 100 dollar Visa card! :D You have to sign up for auto pay in order to get that.

When you sign up...you sign up for 2 years. They lied to you when they told you you don't sign a contract. B/c you do if you signed up for one of their 'deals'. If your not passed your 2 years..thats why you have the cancellation fee.

When I signed up..I did it ALL online. You visit the site..and a little chat window pops up with a rep asking to help you out. So I did that...and then took a screen shot of the chat so I had it all on record. It has bailed me out twice already on things they tried to fuck me over on. You get the movie channels for 3 months when you first sign up...so...I specifically asked them...do you have to cancel that after the 3 months? The rep told me no..they don't renew unless you specifically renew them. So...3 months goes by...next bill..I have a 50 dollar charge for these movie channels. Argued with them for a minute...then sent them the chat. They backtracked real quick after that. So, b/c of that...I have the Sunday ticket for free this season. :D So, I kinda made out on that one!

No, the contract is only until January of next year so it'd be 1 year. Mine was done over the phone, they called me due to my name being released to them by my landlord.

It's bullshit, I was lied to, period.

Of course, that's how they hook you in. A lot of places lie to you just to get your business. That's just how it goes. That's why I always try to have something in writing if possible. That way they can't say "HA HA...you're fucked now".

Just because that's how it works doesn't mean it's how it should work.

Agreed! The biggest scumbags ever. My mom has tried canceling their services for weeks, they keep having sales guys call her back and tell her they won't relinquish her business. Finally I had to call on her behalf (she can be a bit timid) and yell at the lady when she tried the same shit. I demanded they cancel, and they finally did. Just so unprofessional, I tell EVERYONE to avoid this shady, shady company.

Did I say thats how it should work? Of course not. I'm just trying to help you out so you can cover your ass next time. Bottom line...don't take anyone's word for anything.

I know that. Why do you think I have extensive documentation of the phone call I had? Literally wrote down as much as I could write from the conversation. Doesn't matter, it's just shady, unethical, irresponsible business, period.

They are scumbags. It took three days to do the install my locals never came in, and when I'd call they would tell me there was a storm in my area. I waited the year out and canceled no problems. About two months later I get a bill for $300 for canceling. When I call they tell me it's because I bought a dvr and got a rebate, and they came out to set it up. I said bullshit I never got a rebate, and set it up myself so I won't be paying. Three months later the first American I ever talked to at DTV calls and tells me to mail the dvr back or they will send me to collections for the $300. It's been 4 years I still have the dvr and didn't pay a dime. I get a call and a letter once a week to come back.

When I was moving from Perrysburg to Sandusky, I had to cancel my DTV because my new place wouldn't allow it. I accepted the cancellation fee, no problem. The problem was I needed them to ship the boxes to me to return the DVR's. I notified them about 3 weeks prior to moving out. Coming moving day, I still hadn't received the boxes. I called them a week before stating I still hadn't received them. They confirmed they were shipped. YADDA YADDA YADDA. They never came in time. I called, stated they needed to be shipped to my NEW address because we weren't going to be in Perrysburg anytime soon to pick them up. We had contact with one of our old neighbors there and they let us know a few days later that the boxes had arrived! I called DTV and said I can't get the boxes there and explained the situation. Long story short, I finally got the boxes and shipped them out. During the transit period, they had charged my checking account over $800 for the 2 DVR's. I called FURIOUS! Demanded to speak to a manager, explained the situation and told him to check my records of my calls. He saw that I had been contacting them about the situation for weeks. He refunded the money the next day. I signed back up with them when I moved to Bellevue because their service is head and shoulders above any other provider.

Yea, I had it when I lived in Montana with five other dudes. Our bill was never the same every month, I was called them 1-2 times a month, (and would always get "disconnect the box, and call me back if the problem insists") ... it's just a shitty company. Their picture quality is excellent, but that's about it. Never again will I ever be a customer of theirs.

All that means is that you were being overcharged by 10 dollars in the past. You aren't getting a deal.
