I can't say I'm surprised, but it's still a sad thing to hear.

I hope he makes it, but unfortunately I think we all know the chances are slim.

Hopefully one day they publish the love letters he wrote to his wife. Apparently they are something quite special.

His anecdotes for life are valuable reads for anyone who is seeking guidance or simple tools for living.

He will be missed. I shook his hand at the Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis years back, and thankfully my boss's father was his roommate at Purdue years ago, and I was able to have my boss get a copy of his book A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court I will treasure it always.

Always sad to see such an important figure of the game pass on, and it surely will when that time comes for Wooden.

However, even Bill Walton has loudly expressed the privileges he and his teammates had while playing for Wooden in Westwood. But, however tainted his career may now seem after all that has come out, there is no disputing Wooden's ability to teach the game. Simply one of the best. And his insights on life are even better.

I've found it's not always a necessity these days. Everyone knows the champ.

As for Wooden, ESPN is reporting that the coach is now resting from dehydration. That doesn't sound particularly grave or requiring of a "final goodbye." The Wooden family seems to be expressing great optimism, and, right now, that's whom I'll believe. He is 99, though, so whether he's battling mono or a paper cut, Wooden could go at any time.

The guy is hospitalized in grave condition and you still feel the need to take a shot at him. How sad.

Wooden's legacy isn't tainted in the least bit. Just like other winning college basketball coaches, he won because he recruited very good players and taught them to play a team game.

I don't feel bad about bringing up the Walton allegations, no. The cheating you did in life (if Wooden in fact did) isn't erased when you die. This isn't a children's board game.

For Wooden the human being, I am very saddened. My grandfather, a well noted basketball coach in Ohio in his own right, went into the hospital yesterday and I understand what the Wooden family is going through. It's always tough to see a loved one in that situation, especially when they could go at any time. But it's a part of life.
