Winning powerball ticket sold in Sunbury
I've known Ralph my whole life, he grew up just down the road from my mom in Harlem Twp (where I grew up as well).
Congrats to them.
Winning powerball ticket sold in Sunbury
http://www.10tv.com/live/content/local/stories/2010/06/03/story-sunbury-powerball-ticket-winner.html?sid=102SUNBURY, Ohio — Ohio has a $261.6 million Powerball winner less than two months after the state joined the multistate lottery game.
The Ohio Lottery says the only winning ticket matching all six numbers in Wednesday night's drawing was sold at a store in Sunbury, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.
Ralph Smith, owner of the business where the ticket was sold, will receive a $100,000 check for selling the winning ticket, Bell reported.
"It's been tough around here for the last year with the economy as it is," Smith said. "It's been tough. It's been a struggle It'll help."
Clerk Rose Ong says it's a "wonderful" feeling and says the store does not know who the winner is.
The holder of the ticket has 180 days to come forward to claim the quarter of a billion dollar jackpot.
If he or she takes the cash option, after taxes, they will take home $134.2 million.
Ohio will make at least $8.1 million in taxes, because the sale was made within the state, Bell reported.

That's pretty awesome for the store owner. I have a friends who's from Sunbury. Congrats to the winner... 134.2 million! Wish I could get just 1% of that haha.

Dang I drive through there all the time now...but since I've never gotten a lottery ticket I guess it doesn't matter.

You just follow 71 through the 36/37 exit. This is over at 36/3 and 61 at the north tip of town. The freeway exit is actually like 2 1/2 miles from Sunbury proper.

This. Hell, I drove through there a few times in the past couple weeks, but never got a lottery ticket (or even remotely considered doing so). Such is life...

But if you get off at exit 140 (route 61) and come south, you can go past Monkey Hollow Rd.
I had a feeling that there was going to be some involvement with Ralph though. When my dog ran off last time, Ralph nearly shot him. The dog ran off for a second time a couple weeks ago (back safely though), and now this.

No one knows. If they claimed it in a blind trust, no one will ever know who it was and the media won't even report it was claimed. I am assuming it has been though, because the powerball website lists the jackpot at $28 million

The site shows it at $28 million whether they claimed it or not. The site shows the amount for the next drawing and the $261 million was won so it's now showing up any more. They have 180 days to claim it. The media will report on it even if it's claimed by a Trust....you can count on that.

If they claim it in 30 or 60 days in a blind trust the media won't say shit because they will have nothing to report. Some unknown person who lives in an unknown location has claimed money. Yep, great story there. There was a guy who won a share of an 80 million out of state powerball jackpot and they claimed it in a blind trust and you never heard anything.
