Any followers of the league change over to the new site? If so, lets talk some hoops!

There are a few that have come over. One week to the preview. I'm looking forward to the season starting.

When is the MAL Preview? How did SJCC scrimmages go?

MAL Preview is Saturday I think from what I heard.

SJCC has had a tough scrimmage schedule so far in talking with a friend of mine. They scrimmaged someone last Tuesday who I can't remember, then Ross on Friday as we all know, and then went to Sylvania Southview last night. They have not been shy about who they have scheduled to scrimmage apparently if they are playing Ross and Southview. Good luck to our neighbors this season!

The preview is this Saturday at 6:00 @ Old Fort. I didn't get to the Ross SJCC scrimmage but I have heard that SJCC's scrimmage schedule is tough.

I went to watch Ross freshmen scrimmage SJCC today and the varsity was scrimmaging someone, whoever it was they were wearing orange. Wasn't sure who it was though. Saw SJCC win the last 2 quarters and they play hard.

All I hope for is for intelligent conversations about the Midland Athletic League....On the other site it was just about who the POY was going to be...Bettsville and their inflated stats and egos...someone's out of control father from Bettsville...and whether or not Dennis was going to play this year or not. That being said....hopefully we will have great conversation and good games all year in this league.

Rocket Legacy, there is a lot of hype for Bettsville this year for good reason so please don't hate on them on here. How did the preview go for everyone last night?

I don't see the hype. Elmwood scrimmaged Bettsville and it wasn't close in all quarters. They have a nice big and a couple good guards. But I didn't see anything that would have me believe they will win the MAL. But, it was just a scrimmage.

Let's not forget that Elmwood is pretty darn good too. They took it to us as well in our scrimmage with them and we have played very strong against teams like Sylvania Southview and Fremont St Joe. Elmwood was impressive to me.

I am not hating on Bettsville. I was simply stating that that was all you read on the previous site. I want this site to stay positive about all teams in the MAL. I just want to see balanced and good conversation.

The preview was good last night. Not a lot of surprises and it looks like the MAL should be pretty competitive, although I think New Riegel and Carey are the front runners.

This one is for you Rocket Legacy. I did see that Dennis was at the preview but was in street clothes. Not sure if he was injured (I know he played the last few games of the football season). Hartsel from Bettsville was also in street clothes. I heard he sat out for precautionary reasons, nothing major.

Should be a good year for the MAL. I am covering the Bettsville-Lake game Friday for www.ohsn.org I will have a game story, stats, and pictures there.

I wanna see first hand what thee hype about Bettsville is. At least I can come in with an unbiased view cause I am a Patrick Henry grad living in Gibsonburg.

Thanks Rec League Guy for bringing up the Dennis issue...(not). Oberhaus... an unbiased perspective on Bobcats will be a welcomed perspective. As far as the preview goes...I hear that New Riegel really took it to Lakota. I also heard that Old Fort did not embarrass themselves and played North Baltimore to a tie. Now I understand that it was only the preview and no one shows anything real...but Old Fort playing North Baltimore to a tie is a moral victory for the Stockaders.

How did New Reigel look? What was their score against Lakota? How did Dustin Kinn look?

I hope you're right about Elmwood. We'll find out real quick with an opening game at LB saturday.

Also, New Reigel comes to Elmwood later in the season.

transplant here from jjhudde good to see a thread about the MAL.

Also good to see that OF played ok at the preview. I hope for the kids sake they can win some games this year. I now they got a new coach but don't know much about him. Rocket Legacy I'm with ya about the whole Bettsville talk.

This year can be an exciting year for the MAL New Reigel seems to be the favorite and then a few other teams fall into contention for a chance for the league title. Im glad to hear that Old Fort tied North Baltimore and I hope for the best out of the Stockaders. Good Luck to all and this will be a great year of basketball.

Here is the MAL preview breakdown.
NR 36 - Lakota 12
Calvert 35 Bettsville 32
Old Fort 26 North Baltimore 26
Mohawk 28 Carey 25
Seneca East 19 HL 6
SJCC 11 SE 8
SJCC 8 HL 8

Schalk won the three point contest from NR by hitting 17 of the 22 shots he got up. Pretty impressive, and he made 3 3's against Lakota.

I guess no real surprises looking at the scores except HL having troubles scoring against both Seneca East and St Joe. Who is Schalk? I have never heard of him. Sounds like the rest of the MAL will hear of him soon enough. That NR score is impressive!
