a suck ass

Every year in our corporate outing I play with another electrical engineer, and 2 mechanical engineers. 3 of us are pretty good golfers and the other guy is decent and we pretty much take it every year.
My bosses boss (Director) asked me at lunch if I'd play with him, his boss (SR. VP) and his former boss (Pres of a different group now) in the outing this year. My bosses boss plays in the same company league as me so that's the golfing connection.
You can't really tell him no, but I will never hear the end of it if at work if I do.

Bail on my current team

Stick with um.

BTW.. leagues tonight at 4:20 and he wants to know before we tee off.

I already know my answer.. just wanna see what you guys would do.

Stick with em so you don't lose. Either way it's win-win for you. You say yes and you're a kiss ass. You say no and you show some level of loyalty to your old team--and that can be your reason, you want to be loyal to the guys you play with. Especially when they're who you work with on a daily basis--guarantee he understands and he may even be impressed that you were able to turn him down.

Don't let your boss pimp you.

1 point of interest... the guy they used to play with was a few years older than me and played a lot of SCAGA golf with me.. he was a real good golfer too (better than me) and lost his job last summer ... it may be a marked position lol

Corporate outing = work. Play with co-workers on your own time if you want. Networking != suck ass

I say bail! Whenever you can rub shoulders (I'm not sure how often you get the opportunity so it may be a non-issue) with the Sr. VP of an organization you take it!

Bail You get to play with your bosses boss, the SR VP and the President of another company. Work golf outing are all about making contacts with the top people and you've been offered that chance I wouldn't pass it up. They might not be as good as your current team but they'll probably have some pretty funny stories.

Based on polling results and the overall feel of this site in most other threads--it's pretty clear that you should stick with your old team. Followers would bail.

I say stick with your current team, but I'm always one that could care less about "kissing butts".

Play with your bosses. You can play with your friends all the time.

I feel as if you didn't really understand, it isn't that he's passing up on friendly round with his "friends".

Do you want to share the wealth with your teammates, or be the ringer for somebody else's group?

I'd still be the ringer on either team,.. just much more so on the bosses team cuz they all pretty much suck.

well be the ringer on the better team.... at least then you'll have a chance of winning instead of having to carry the other bunch to a middle of the pack finish

BTW... I told him I'd play with him.
My golf partner in today's league is one of the guys I play in the outing with and he'd said I'd be stupid not to.

Definitely the correct choice. Networking is ass kissing only to those that never have the opportunity.

As you know... one can learn a great deal about an individual by playing golf. You might learn things about your bosses boss, etc. that truly allow you to understand where they are coming from, how they process information, how things can operate better and become more productive. You also can build a relational bridge that only golf can build... to help you communicate to the top and make certain your viewpoints are heard (unfiltered)... if you want them to be. Have fun and enjoy the experience.

Play with the bosses. Sounds like the perfect "kiss up" chance.
