Terrible news. He was a character. I still have a ball he tossed to me during BP at Yankee Stadium when he was with the Royals.

Very sad to hear, always liked how much enthusiasm he had on the mound. He had fun playing the game.

Deadspin comment:
In honor of his passing, Melissa Lima will lower her breasts to half mast.

But in all seriousness, this is sad to hear. A heart attack at 37 is definitely a bad thing. Jose was a little crazy, but at least he kept it interesting.

Very sad.

He had some antics that bothered some but it was really just him.

I do feel he purposely creampuffed a fastball down the pipe a couple of times to Sammy late in that season of 98.

RIP Jose

On a serious note, I'm curious to know if steroids played a role in the 37 year old's heart attack.

...He was always a favorite of Jim Rome, so I would guess that will be his lead in story tomorrow.

RIP Jose
