Was thinking about this the other day,

Each decade of college basketball has had a player that transcended the sport in terms of above the rim play.

1970's-David Thompson
1980's-Michael Jordan maybe Clyde Drexler
1990's-Vince Carter

but when I got to the 2000's I really drew a blank? Anyone have suggestions for best college bball dunkers of the 00's

I might be a little biased, but a name I would put out there for best of the 2000's is UC's James White. Here is a link to a youtube package.

Yeah James White was a great dunker.

Outside of him, I really can't think of anyone.

Maybe Dahntay Jones?? He had some legit dunks at Dook.

Kelenna Azubuike. He wasn't showy, but he was a great dunker.

Skip to about 3:50 and watch the rest.

I'd agree. One of the best dunkers ever at UK, top 3 for sure.

yeah, that last minute of the Azibuke video was legit.

Does he go above Melvin Levett, the levitator?
wait, turns out Melvin was late 90's. Not gonna beat Vince.

Yeah, Mel was in the 90's. Mel had tremendous hops and is on the short list of best of the 90's in my opinion. Here is a youtube clip of the "Helicopter" to refresh some memories.

and Ill go ahead and tell you all the best dunker of NEXT decade is gonna be Hanner Perea from UFCA in Indiana. He plays for Indiana Elite, and Ive seen the kid a few times. I wouldnt be surprised if he is a one and done. Part of the HIGHLY coveted class of 2012 in Indiana, its a pretty close must get for Tom Crean.

Travis Leslie is definitely the best dunker in college today. The dunk he has over Cousins last year was one of the best I've ever seen.

As for your high schooler, though, I don't agree. John Wall had all those dunks on his high school reel and he was only 6'4''. I'm sure there are some players out there that are much better.

Definitely not biased. James White was my first thought after reading the OP.

The fact that he made a big enough impact to get his name mentioned this many times in this thread (probably almost strictly based on that dunk contest for most people) speaks for itself IMO. Dude can fly.

Maybe, maybe not. John Wall didnt do a lot of what this kid can do either (most notably the first dunk on the reel). Those dunks are all from his freshman year as well (maybe some from this past season).

John Wall cant jump this high either (not a true vertical, but he touches 12' 2").

BTW, it was kind of said tongue in cheek. This kid is a great dunker and one of the best Ive seen at that level. But obviously we will see some others that compare and might be better.

If this kid cracks the starting lineup at Minnesota next year or the year after, he'll be putting up a bunch of highlight reel dunks: Rodney Williams

Corey Maggette would certainly have given Carter a run for his money had he came to Duke a year earlier and played at least two seasons (to make the '90s cut-off). Even with just one season under his belt, however, Maggette threw down some of the decade's most ferocious and memorable dunks. He could walk on air. The '98 dunk he put down on Florida in Cameron, I'm not sure God could have gone that high.

You can't go wrong with Carter, though, who, in his prime, was arguably the greatest dunker in the history of the world.

In the '90s, Jameel "Superman" Pugh of UMass did his thing as well anyone in the decade. Because he played for the Minutemen post Calipari, however, he's largely forgotten. You also have to take into consideration UNLV's Larry Johnson, USC's Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner and Cincy's Darvin Ham.

Jason Richardson is obviously is the discussion as well for the '00s, maybe even the winner. Can't believe he's been left off this list.

In the '80s, Bluegrass heroes Kenny "Sky Walker" and "King" Rex Chapman have to be discussed alongside David Thompson. I didn't see them personally, but their highlights speak for themselves. Charles Barkley, if not artistic certainly dominant, could be in there as well.

UK's Kenny Sky Walker of the 80's and Rodney Dent/Derek Anderson in the 90's. Dent threw it down with authority while Anderson had style. Azubuike wasnt too shabby either. PP and Wall were both great dunkers this year also.

Are you refuting Maggette's ability to dunk?

If so, you're even more ignorant that I already anticipate you are. Besides, I gave Carter credit where credit is due, if that's your beef.
