Leake finally allows a runner on the 11th batter, a "not giving in" walk, who promptly was erased on an inning ending DP. Leake has still faced only the minimum over 4 innings with just an average of 12 pitches per inning.

Definitely impressive how Leake has asserted himself.

And yes, how bad do the Cubs suck?

No No is gone with infield hit by Castro

Leake still working well, that ab by Cabrera in the 2nd could loom large. Reds offense needs to put up a couple more runs to support the pitching.

Yes, I know its disappointing not to get at least one of those runners in that were at 2nd and 3rd with one out, especially after the Cubs botched the bunt play to put them in that good position. It shure would have been nice to have a 4-0 or even 3-0 lead. Cabrera has been excellent so far this year at getting those kinds of runs in, the ones you don't need to get a hit to get in. Normally hitting the first pitch is not that good to do, but in this case where he is trying to get a fly to get the run in that may just be out of the reach of the outfielders to score them both, you want to go after the first pitch you think you can do that with, which he did, but he just missed it.

They are right about that play. He's out with a good throw.

A hit which was a bit tainted(a better play would have gotten him out) is the only reason Leake hasn't faced the minimum over six, averaging 11.33 pitches per inning. Reds need to add to the lead to take some of the pressure off by aking the lead more comfortable..

Reds can't get anything more going on offense. That 2nd run in the 2nd inning was big and is very encouraging in that the threat of Stubbs speed/bunt set up the Cubs to snooker them on a SB by Gomes, then Stubbs actually hit it on the ground to make them make a play and got the run in, a run they probably wouldn't have gotten with out the SB.

Votto with a leap for Leake! Adds to the magnitude of the progressing gem by Leake.

two outs, 7th inning. runners on the corners

where in the heck is the pitching coach? A little visit would have gone a long way in settling down Leake.

Reds looking in the mirror why this one slips away.

I was thinking the same thing, especially since he is a Rookie.

Leake needed a mental break there after getting smacked by Byrd and giving up a dribbler for an infield hit. A mound visit would have done just that.

Oh yeah, Ramon Hernandez sucks. WTF was up with that attempted back hand on that pitch in the dirt? It was a wild pitch but Ramon made no attempt to block it. You gotta put forth an effort, especially when there's a runner on 3rd.

Ramon with a 2B. He better had done something after that weak ass attempt of blocking that ball in the dirt.

Leake will now bunt. I'd rather see a pinch hitter here, but that's just me.

not a bad play, Leake may be one of the best bunters on the roster

Hernandez needs to see it up the line, then advance.

This inning could have been swell but playing it close to the vest back fired by leaving the pitcher in to bunt following a lead off 2B.

O-Cab with a knock. 1st and 2nd with 1 out. BP up. A double play will probably ensue.

One slight aspect he may not have been quite ready for was to expect the kinds of plays that major leaguers can make. On the wild pitch that let Byrd score from 3rd that he got such a good jump on and was able to get in there ahead of the tag that came down on the plate on a pitch that got away just a short distance. Leake seemed like he was just coming in as a formality to cover in a "lost cause", his path veered to the center of the plate instead of getting in position to to grab the throw over the front corner of the plate and get it down right over it. If he had done that, he might have been thru the 7th with still a shutout.
