I understand and applaud the reason he did it, however, if I was him, I would have tried to make it less obvious than sending my drive 40 yards out of bounds. I could see muffing or hitting a chip flat and sailing it over the green, or missing the putt. Not sure if I were on the receiving end of the charity act that I would like it be done so blatantly.

Shit, if you're gonna tank it, you might as well tank it hard lol

But if I was to do it I would have just conceded the hole.

I would have putted the ball down the fairway.

Oh wait, thats what my driver usually turns into anyway, nevermind.

I would have just missed a put on purpose and never said anything about it.

But that doesn't make this any less cool. I also know that if someone were to get me into nationals in this manner I wouldn't be too upset. Dude isn't saying you're a charity case (he did take him to a playoff) he's just saying that you deserve to go to nationals and he already has his ticket.

40 yards out of the fairway? Thats a pretty damn good hit in my book! As long as I can find the ball, I consider it a great shot! :)

A player should not be put in that position... If you have tied for medalist honors... both players should already qualify for the National Championship. Why would you not allow the low individual from a non-qualifying team? But, I do applaud the sportsmanship.

There are no ties in golf.

Trust me... I understand about no ties in golf... even if the kid who ended up winning the tourney had lost, he still should have qualified. Second place should qualify for the championship.. was all I meant.

Sorry but that's fuckin stupid. You don't intentionally let someone beat you. He should lose his spot in nationals for dishonoring the sport. If I were the kid who "won", I'd feel like shit knowing I didn't deserve to be there.

Not surprised to see something like this in NAIA considering the school's reputations.

this is how I feel.

He doesn't know that he's so much better that the other kid wouldn't have beat him outright. Make him earn it, just like you did.

Exactly.. he took you to extra holes... if he beats you he was better on that day and deserves it... don't blow it b/c you think he deserves it.

I tend to agree with Zwick and j_crazy ... while the guy had noble intentions, I think he basically made a farce of the other guy's qualification to Nationals. If I were the other guy, I would probably respectfully bow out: I wouldn't want a charity entry.

Yep.

Pretty lame, IMO. Also, not like the dude was that much better where that was the only way for the other kid to beat him. Play the damn hole.

MAYBE miss a putt by a bit when it comes down to that, and don't say anything about it, but don't intentionally miss terribly off the opening tee. Attention whore-ish. I would be pissed if i was the other kid.

Part of me thinks homeboy made a bad swing on the playoff hole and is using this as an excuse.

if he did do it on purpose, he shouldn't have said anything, now he looks like a shithead.

NAIA schools are a bit different in goals and beliefs. They have different objective than typical NCAA schools.

Here is the mission statement.

Seems pretty much the exact same as the mission statements of the two universities i've attended aside from the Christianity aspect of it...

But, fair enough.

THIS. What kinda weak ass shit is this? I am sure the guy who did it is not competitive enough to win the national title in that division.
