National Champ and 3x State Champ Steve Luke (Massillon Perry/University of Michigan) will conduct a clinic at Olentangy Orange High School on May 12th from 7-9 PM. Luke is a one of the sturdiest competitors in recent history and is currently doing his post grad work at Ohio State and working with the Ohio RTC.

Come on, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st in high school in DI, Senior National champ coming out of high school. 3X Big Ten champion, 3X All American, 2X finalist and undefeated NCAA champion. Always in perfect position, almost imposible to take down and the best stand-up I've seen in 20 years.
Cruiser...I prefer the term "man-crush".

It went very well. Stand-ups, lots of high crotch stuff, defense. Great session!

I was unable to attend this clinic, but Zach and his dad did. Zach had been looking forward to this since it was first posted (being a HUGE HUGE Steve Luke fan!). The feedback I received from both of them was it was worth exponentially more than the mere $10 registration fee. Great instruction from one of the very best wrestlers anywhere. A big thank you to the Olentangy Orange wrestling coaching staff for hosting it!

Well, yeah, there's that.
But seriously, Steve Luke has been a wrestling role model for Zach for years so it was a big thrill for him. Having gotten a chance to meet him and interact with him, I suspect the role model status now includes more than just as a wrestler. From the feedback I got, he seems to be an all-around good guy and did a great job instructing the kids.

Between what was taught last night and what Mike Pucillo showed a couple of weeks ago, a wrestler could do nothing esle but what was shown those two days and be a State Champion. One of the best front headlock series of all time, one of the best stand-ups of all time, a great outside single to one side and a high-C to the other. That's it, that's all you need.
Quote of the night:
"People say I'm a boring wrestler because I stay in good position all the time, but I was 32-0 and an NCAA champ. Would it have been better to be all flashy like Mike Poeta and lose in the finals?"
Zambrown...There are a lot of great wrestlers out there, it says a lot about your son that he would choose a guy like Luke as a role model. Also, a lot of times when a wrestling great comes in to do a clinic, they'll chose someone around their size to drill with and that kid will have no appreciation for how good the guy they're drilling with is...what an honor and opportunity it is to lock up and learn first hand from someone that good. That kind of perspective was not lost on Zach. He was very much in the moment and enjoyed the experience of working with Coach Luke. There's no one in that room that got more out of those two hours than your son.

Thank you for the kind works, Bitter. I will pass them along to Zach and I couldn't agree more. As for the quote, funny you should mention that because that was something that was repeated to me last night as a favorite comment. We all agreed that you certainly can't argue that point!
