During campaign and earlier, Obama had said that he would recognize what happened to the Armenians at the hands of the Turks in the early 20th century as a "genocide." Instead, he caves to the Turks in order to not offend our oh so important ally in the Middle East.

Another shameful act from another American president in this regard. No President yet, from what i've seen, as yet actually called one of the greatest atrocities in human history what it is...a genocide. It is an insult and a shame that political correctness and politics even plays a role in recognizing such horrendous actions for what they are.

By refusing to recognize fully and truthfully this atrocity, despite the fact that happened almost a hundred years ago, makes it easier for the U.S. and the West to continue to ignore acts of genocide, and for things like Rwanda, Darfur, etc., to happen again.

Shame on you, Mr. President.

Uhh, I care more about our relationship with Turkey, especially when it comes to Iran, Iraq and Middle East peace than some genocide. Fact is, our strategic relationship with Turkey is more important.

Understood, PTown, just find it distasteful. I guess i'm just as upset with Turkey for not recognizing it as i am at Obama.

Still, i was disappointed when i read this, to say the least. Read quite a bit on the Armenian Genocide, and how it is remembered even today, and was encouraged reading what Obama thought during the campaign.

Not recognizing the horrendous actions of a group to their fullest extent because it is politically smart not to do so is a shame, IMO.

Understandable. But, given the geopoltics of the region and the fact the U.S really needs Turkey as an ally, the issue, sadly, is put on the backburner.

It may be a shame, but it is the nature of international politics. Realpolitik is a dirty business.
It is a sore sport in Turkey, and it is sad they have not acknowledged it.

I think alot of people need to remember that even supporters of President _____________ (pick one) are allowed to have dissenting views on certain items.

I think "we" do a great disservice to ourselves and our President's by not disagreeing with at least one point that they do or don't do.
I think it is just as important to voice our opinions when we think that a President has done something right.

I was criticizing the President in this one regard, doesn't mean i am not satisfied with his performance overall.

I'm a honored special trained vet where men lives where in my control, college graduate BS degree, professional business owner of two companies (engineering, architectural and manufacturing fields). My effort to achieve is like a doctorate degree. I was blessed with dyslexia and would not have my live any other way it has made me a better person. When I'm in a hurry, rushed or have multiple things to process my efforts to communicate via the written word drops off.
Want to know what my world is like…. drive you car backwards around the block by only looking in the rear view mirror.. That would be like me reading, and writing

Ahh, sorry. I was unawares that you had dyslexia. Makes a whole lot more sense. Again, my bad.

I know the basic outline of what dyslexia does but I didn't know you had it.
