Alright, so this guy that lived in my apt before me decided that he wasn't going to switch over any of his mail.

I mean none of it whatsoever. I get his bank statements, his new atm card, the pin number for said atm card, his child support statements, his income tax forms, basically any important document you can name has still been sent to the apt.

Now I know that I have to deal with some unnecessary crap like JCPenny catalogs and local stuff and I'm fine with that. But the guy seems to have dropped off the face of the planet?

What I have been doing is typically sending the shit right back where it came from and putting it back in the mail hoping the USPS would take the hint. They keep returning it. One letter came back 4 times.

Ideas? Thoughts? Concerns? Tell me to go fuck myself?

I think there is some sort of form that you fill out at the post office stating that the guy doesn't live there.

Write "NO LONGER AT THIS ADDRESS" on the envelope and put it back in the mailbox. It will be returned to sender or hit the trash bin at the USPS.

Unless he changes his address they will keep coming. I would just toss the stuff and forget about it. I rent myself and I get alot of people's mail at times with my address on it, goes straight in the trash I could care less!

You don't even want to know the kind of moral issue that I had when my roommate opens up the letters to see if it was just a bank offer or something valuable and out fell a new atm card and the pin number. I decided to stick with the not commit fraud route and stay out of prison though. Figured the first place they may look is at the current address. Granted I am in Cincinnati.

Don't open it.
Cross out all the barcodes and the address (but not his name) with something heavy like a permanent marker or cover them with masking tape so that the sorting machine doesn't pick it up again at the post office.
Write "MLNA" on the envelope (stands for Moved, Left No Address), and send it back.

Eventually the Post Office catches on when they have a ton of MLNA's for this guy and the frequency of it slows down.


That is the procedure that was asked of us by the Postal Service when I had to do mail in the dorms.

I'm dealing with the same shit at my house. The people that lived here before moved and left no forwarding address and we get all their shit. It drives me crazy.

I have gone to the post office three times now and told them to only deliver mail for my fiancee and I and nothing has changed.

As annoying as fuck!

Mail is machine sorted, completely. The bar codes are programmed to sort by address, doesn't look at name whatsoever unless someone submits the address change form, then it will actually flag the address for manual distribution.

You have to send it back and block off the bar codes, which forces it into a hand sorted pile.

You have a couple of options which haven't been mentioned.
1-contact child support. They don't mess around, they'll find him.
2-file a change of address form for him, and list some other address.

He isn't behind on his child support, its the reminder that they send out to him. You know, in case he forgets about his kids? How much does Ohio lose on that?
