Makes every NFL player a target for blackmail. Accusations can now result in multiple game suspensions. These guys better start using high class hookers who are discrete or carry video cameras and make sure that the girl they are considering having a relationship with gives her consent on camera, so there are no gray areas.

people act like this is one accusation and he's getting suspended.

ben had a record with repeated transgressions. did you read the police report? do you think it's honestly the first time he's done something like this?

Goodell did what he had to do. Ben is a fucking moron. He got accused of the shit last summer, and came back this summer and did the exact same shit. He's a fucking moron.

Its only right for Ben to get suspended, especially if Goodell already did so with so many others, but the current rule is a joke.

Say if I was a NFL player and I go to Burger King and a fight breaks out. I'm in trouble just for being there as if I was suppose to know it was going to happen? Someone can just say I punch him and I'm suspended without facts? Come on now.

Back in the days of "The Office", one of the Cowboys players used to make them sign consent forms.

Funny thing about having a contract that binds you to the RULES of the league you're in -- you actually have to abide by it.

And it's a contract and they are league rules, so no rule of LAW is necessary. They can decide punishment based on much lesser standards and they are perfectly within their legal rights to do so.

It comes with the territory when you sign multi million dollar contracts to play in one of the world's most exclusive leagues.

Don't like the system?

Don't take the paycheck.

Ben has ZIP to stand on here. He put himself in this because of repeated bad behavior, and the league is perfectly within its rights to punish him however they see fit.

It might be a good idea for Ben to (1) dry up if he's a drunk (which I think he is) and/or (2) get counseling on what proper behavior is when you interact with females.

Running around with your dick outside your pants is not a good idea, Ben, just in case you didn't know already.

Roethlisberger hurt the league's public image, plain and simple.

If you or I had repeated behavioral problems and it hurt the business' image, we'd get a suspension or even worse.

I wouldn't be surprised if the player's union didn't like this.

The unions had a say in the behavior standards, I'm sure -- plus each player has a say in how his own contract is worded.

They have nothing to stand on if they're unhappy about this.

Hell no the players don't like it. It makes all of them blackmail targets.

Writer,
Nice post , but it doesn't address the topic. Nobody is doubting the power of Goodell. I am questioning his use of that power and wheher or not he abused that power.

Again, as I posted on the other thread...this is not a civil matter...this is a private corporation "the NFL", controlled by private investors, including the Rooney's...who have every right to desire that their brand not be tarnished by a bad actor's frivolously immature behavior. They would be fully within their rights if they fired him. "Even without a conviction"...yu reetards. The fact that they may not trade him says way more about the Rooney's class than it says about Ben's. period.

I'm sure the majority of players will manage to not have their security barricade them in college bar bathrooms with random women.

Well great, about 90% of the league should be suspended then.

Fixed.

Goodell doesn't do shit for the good of the league, he does stuff because he fucking can and it makes him feel good to have absolute power. Gene Upshaw was the Comissioner's bitch when he was the head of the union, so they have no power when it comes to the front office. The inconsistency in his punishments over the years proves that fairly well.

I'm not saying they need to become insanely powerful to the point where the league is almost corrupt like Donald Fehr did with the baseball union, but they need to even out the power balance. DeMaurice Smith has said they want to regain some of the power, and I almost guarantee it leads to a work stoppage because Goodell and the owners aren't going to easily give up their stranglehold.
