With the B10 announcing today expansion talks are now not emminent, looks the Big East Conference is being proactive.

Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue has been retained as a consultant to assist the conference with expanding TV revenue and "other matters". Under Tagliabue's watch, the NFL Network Network was created and profits soured. This does not sound liike something from conference that was just yesterday being reported to being on life support.

Maybe the Big East has some other plans in the works? Maybe they believe they will retain their current members and plan on expanding themselves?

Actually, it sounds like a desperation move from a conference on life support. What is Tagliabue going to do? He's not going to cause anyone to want to watch Rutgers or UConn football.

Brian Bennets blog mentioned the possibility of Boston College and Maryland leaving the ACC for the Big East. Obviously a hypothetical, but BC regrets leaving the Big East, and Maryland would probably love being in a tougher BBall conference.

Maryland leaving would be absolutely silly on their part. Leaving the ACC basketball for Big East basketball is like flying from Miami Beach to Hawai'i for vacationing--they have an very good basketball conference now!

The Big East is a joke. If Boston College wants to be a part of that, go for it. I'm fairly certain teams like Pittsburgh or West Virginia would love to take their spots.
