This is why my job is scary.

As I type this message, I'm sitting on a floating Drilling rig, in a random Mississippi Canyon Block. Meanwhile in Mississippi Canyon Block 226 (about 35 miles from my rig) an explosion rocked the rig and it still burns. there were 126 POB when the explosion happened, reports are that 8 were airlifted to Venice and are critical condition. the others evacuated, and there is no report of them being found just yet.

Scary Shit.

another article. 11 missing, 7 critically injured.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/21/AR2010042100936.html?hpid=moreheadlines

from experience I'm concerned about the 11 missing. typically you go to an assigned vessel to evacuate. if they've got all the vessels, no one should be missing. what's even more concerning is that the rig is designed for 130 POB, so there are only vessels for 130 people. Seeing as how they had 126 POB, there is little chance that there were spare escape vessels.

That is scary. Since you have such a dangerous job, perhaps you should be paying attention and keeping alert, instead of posting on here.

I just got an email with some really gnarley pictures of the rig burning. I'll wait and see if anything gets published before I post them here.

Another story confirming my suspicion and concern that some people didn't make it onto evacuation vessels.

Sad day. We're having a stand down at some point today. For a $1,000,000 per day vessel to shut down and reaffirm our safety belief and stress not getting complacent on the job, that's a big deal IMO.

They're reporting about the rig on WHIO radio in Dayton. It sounds really bad.

video of someone being rescued.

i've seen more pictures, that rig is history. at best they'll float it in on a boat and investigate it. It might just sink. the pictures i've seen have it listing about 15 degrees.

What's a sleep schedule?
Amazing pictures to say the least, must have been one huge blast. Stay safe although nowhere in NOLA is safe. BTW can you get me a few Defend New Orleans stickers, I would gladly pay you up front on shipping and sticker prices?

Glad not many people were hurt. Just makes me wonder though with mining and drilling accidents if it's not time to leave fossil fuels alone.

The more rumors I hear leaked about this, the less it sounds like Transocean is an accountable company...

I feel safer now than I ever have. Our Drillers have their shit together.

CNN and NYT is reporting what I said at noon. She sank.

moving in ROV's to activate the BOP's. Then they'll start cleaning up the slick.

BP has already been sued by the family of 1 of the 11 missing. look for others to follow.

The most powerful part of that video were the pics of the one guy with his wife and young son and then the shot of him with his son. You just know he was doing it all for them... so they would all have a better life together in the not so distant future.

My heart goes out to all of the guys who lost their lives that day... and to all who are left behind who loved them.

Be safe j_crazy.

Looks like methane gas is to blame.
