Question is, why not do it?? He's not going to miss any games he would've played in anyway.

Really? I would expect the suspension wouldnt start until he is back on the active roster.

"Volquez is recovering from surgery on his right elbow and is expected back around midseason. Volquez can serve the suspension while on the disabled list, Courtney told ESPN.com, and will lose a little less than one-third of his $445,000 salary, which amounts to about $137,000."

Haha unbelievable. For being on PED's he was awful. My favorite Reds guy, but still awful lets be honest.

Wow.. stupid move Edinson. At least it doesn't really hurt us. He was out for a while anyways.

I wouldn't say "awful." He was a Cy Young candidate in 2008. Not really a big deal since he's shelved until July anyway.

Wasn't he on PEDs during his recovery from injury? Or did it say he was on PEDs while playing?

Edinson claims that it was during rehab from the injury. I'll take him at his word I guess. Not like it matters since he wasn't playing until then anyway.

After watching his teammates attempt at starting pitching he will probably lose the PED's for coke, heroine, oxy, meth, etc to take the edge off watching this team.

This why the PED suspensions are a joke.

You are penalizing a player 50 games. 50 games in which he has absolutely, 100% no chance of playing.

And I really like Edinson too, but it's not right.

Do you guys think Volquez and maybe someone for the Reds (pitching coach?) told Volquez to use steroids to help his rehab, because they knew he wouldn't be playing anyways?

^^^Doubtful. The guy has NO CHANCE of becoming a legit star now. No one is gonna believe him. Not to mention, if it happens again its a much bigger penalty.

Who cares if he's a "legit star"? If he pitches well for the Reds when he comes back, Reds fans will forgive him. And as for the rest of baseball, WHO CARES what they think of him? As long as he tests clean the rest of his career, what are you gonna say? That he cheated at surgery recovery!? No one is gonna believe him? Believe what? If he pitches well the rest of his career and tests clean, what is there NOT to believe? Christ the baseball world has all but forgotten about Manny testing positive, and anyone who hates him now probably hated him before anyways so theres probably been no change of opinion.

I love Edinson and can't wait for him to come back, I'm a little disappointed that he made this stupid mistake but its not like he pitched a Cy Young season and then tested positive. Nothing is tainted. This is like getting suspended for cheating at batting practice.....

Man I love how people overreact and make sweeping generalizations about news. NO CHANCE of becoming a legit star? Thanks Nastradamus, who wins the pennant this year?

Ok, think what you want. But what kind of idiot is going to go and take PEDs with the chance of being caught and tainting his career?

I'm just glad he took responsibility and is moving on. Anyone know exactly what type of drug it was? I heard somewhere that it was actually a drug to increase his sperm count so that he and his significant other could have a baby? Any truth to that?

One of the announcers mentioned that before the game last night
