Yep. He was past his prime which is why the Steelers didn't want to give him that kind of money.
He was never a great pass blocker, only average at best. He was at one point a great run blocker but that's not the case anymore so you basically have an average run blocker and less than average pass blocker.

steelers had to made some tough decisions over th eyears and let vets go who may have another 1-2 years left in their tanks but not the 4-5 yr contracts another team would give them.
I have no idea how much Fanace has lost in ability..i dont watch the jets much, but I think the steelers felt he had another 1-2 years left but not much more..and def not worth paying big bucks for. They won a SB without him so that showed they could do so. He woulda helped the last two years..thats for sure...
