Maybe not in quite so many words, but....

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Sources-say-Orioles-turned-down-Cal-Ripken-for-job-041610
Owner Peter Angelos recently declined to hire the franchise’s biggest legend, Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., in a baseball capacity, according to multiple major-league sources.

Ripken met with Andy MacPhail, the team’s president of baseball operations, about rejoining the organization, sources said.

Angelos, however, nixed the idea in a separate conversation with Ripken, telling him, according to three sources, that he did not want Ripken to receive credit once the team returned to prominence.
I was an Orioles fan for a long time and stopped when it was apparent that the team was being suffocated by Angelos; I actually wrote a letter to him in 1997 or 1998 outlining my thoughts.

I'd love to see Earl Weaver go off on him. The old guy may be pushing 80, but I'm sure the fire still burns.

The orioles won't be relevant for a while, and this is part of the reason why. Can't see why having Ripken around is a bad idea.

So, you have the asshole owner who currently is presiding over the worst AL team (rivaling the Astros as the worst in the MLB) telling the most beloved player in the franchise's history that he's not welcomed.

Really sound thinking...

Further proof that the Orioles won't be worth a damn for awhile with that kind of decision making in the front office.

Orioles mgr. Dave Trembley has lived in Daytona since the mid 90's. I feel bad for him that he works for Angelos.

Here's a different article talking about the original..in it, Angelos says he'd be more than happy to sit down with Cal about a job, but Cal has never expressed interest.

Why would anyone care who got the credit for being good.....AS LONG AS THEY WERE GOOD!

The Orioles are COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.
