Let the Lebron to NY hysteria begin.

The NBA predicted today that the salary cap for the 2010-11 season would be $56.1 million, up from the initial estimate of $50..4-$53.6 anticipated last July.

What that means is that NY and a host of other teams will now be able to max 2 players out as those extra $3-4 million on the cap were the difference between being able to do so and not being able to do so.

In reality it means very little, but boy can you bet the sports writers will be salivating about it.

It means little but getting two max contracts.

Some teams can get more, but NYK would need a couple more million to put together a legit bench.

The media will simmer down on this as the playoffs gears up but once the playoffs end you better believe that they will start going ape shit.

What this means is guys like Joe Johnson, Rudy Gay, David Lee etc will be getting paid way more than their worth because of guys like LeBron and Wade staying in their respective cities. Teams will have a lot of cap to throw at players and the players know that they can wait for the big deals.

This will no doubt add fuel to the LeBron fire that New YOrk and New Jersey can offer 2 max contracts.

You want to know what the most ridiculous thing about sports media is right now? There is MAJOR hype around this postseason, and even then the playoffs are only going to be a warm up for the NBA print presses. And I mean MAJOR hype around this postseason.

The writers will inevitably fail to mention that what this means to Cleveland and LeBron is that they can also go two max contracts also. They will pull out all the stops...makes for great entertainment.

COrrect me if I am wrong...but Cleveland can still offer Leebraun James more money than any other team right? That is stil how it works in the NBA where you can resign your guy for more than another team can correct?

I don't know who the fuck Leebraun James is, but with a name like that, I hope the Cavs are looking at bringing him in this summer.

Ok wasn't sure. Posts above sounded like they could. I knew the Cavs could offer more $$$ and years though. If Bron does stay, I think it will be interesting to see what Ferry does to make this team better. Obviously, we are going to need another Center with Shaq and Z's contracts expiring. I don't know if Shaq would come back for a smaller salary unless he really enjoyed his time in Cleveland. I think the #1 concern is finding a legit SG this offseason. I'm not a huge Anthony Parker fan.

The Cavs have all kinds of cards to deal. They're just being ignored as a serious big player. That's why most of us well read, "more than casual" Cavs fans are just in wait and see mode as far as the free agency goes--and we have been for awhile. And not, just wait and see, we don't know what will happen. No, just wait and see, LeBron is going to sign back in Cleveland and Dan Gilbert isn't going to sleep this summer. He's going to try to make as big a splash as he can.

The media started this frenzy from LeBron wearing a Yankee hat. The league secretly wants LeBron in NY--media heads know this. David Stearn would never say it for obvious reasons. But the league and sports media is set to make bank with LeBron in NYC. They ignore Cleveland for a reason, but thanks to the same media that opens us up to so many things, they've shown us all of the reasons why LeBron won't leave also--which is why the BS has never been able to get TOTALLY out of control. It's crazy how they get you eating out of the palm of their hand isn't it?

Shaq said if Cleveland wanted him back he'll re-sign.

Gilbert has already stated that he won't sit back and let other teams try to woo LeBron with roster moves. I expect big things to happen this offseason especially if we win the title. He isn't going to let James leave Cleveland without a fight.

I'd really like Joe Johnson, but there is a lot of money available this summer. Cleveland would have had a good chance at him for the MLE last season but more okay teams will be able to offer him more than 5.5 a year. I like Parker but he isn't getting any younger.

But I think Cleveland has an upcoming allstar already on their roster, who LeBron really likes in JJ Hickson. He has impressed me more and more lately.

Parker is more like a 30 year old as far as wear and tear goes though. But I agree, he isn't getting any younger. It's too bad Delonte couldn't be like 6'6. He'd be a superstar. Life is a game of inches.

Exactly. Delonte is one of my favorite players. He looks as if he gives 110% every night and produces.

Like a few FO people have noted, the big winner of this may just be the Miami Heat. As a fan, I'm quite excited about what could happen this offseason.
